(1) Every time I leave an art gallery I am subjected to market research. But I did see the story of the romance between Barbra Streisand and Joseph Beuys retold in comic strip format by Mel Brimfield, who misspelt Streisand's forename throughout. I am unsure if this was ironic. Afterwards I was asked to read out a list of numbers corresponding to the art galleries I have visited in the past 2 years.
(2) Exception. Today I watched a critically acclaimed comedian* and his drummer play the game of chess-pool or pool-chess in a room on the second floor of a temporary art gallery run by other distinguished comedian and grumpy old man Arthur Smith. While drinking red wine from a plastic cup and discussing postal reform. Works on display included a guitar labeled "This machine bores fascists". Truly this is the spirit of the Edinburgh Fringe.
