Adrian: *hums to herself a bit absentmindedly, filling a kettle with water and setting it on the stove, when she hears a little meow coming from her feet and looks down to see Shoe looking up at her expectantly*
Adrian: ...I already fed you. It's not going to work.
Adrian: ...stop looking at me like that. I already fed you, Shoe!
Adrian: *heads to the living room with the mewling cat following her. She sits on the couch and opens a book, waiting for the water in the kettle to start boiling*
Wright: *walks down the street towards Adrian's apartment, with Trucy at his side. He's bundled in an overcoat due to the colder weather, and juggling a desktop-sized tree in his arms, as well as a package or two of ornaments in a bag*
Trucy: *skips alongside, carrying a bright yellow star that's meant to go on the top of the tree--she insisted*
Wright: *takes a minute to remember the correct number to buzz at the entrance of the apartment, and uses that moment to glance down at his daughter with a bit of a grin before he presses *
Wright: No bringing up anything embarrassing in front of Ms. Andrews, kay?
Trucy: *tilts her head thoughtfully*
Trucy: You mean, like being my mommy?
Wright: *flushes slightly*
Wright: Y-yeah, that whole conversation you had with Pearls.
Adrian: *looks up at the buzzer, a bit puzzled*
Trucy: Okay. I won't say anything, since you like Miss Iris better anyway.
Wright: ...........
Wright: *turns a deeper shade of red, but says nothing further*
Adrian: ...I wonder who that could be?
Adrian: *walks to the entrance hallway and presses the button to let her visitors into the complex before returning to her couch, her book, and her cat*
Wright: *catches the door, and holds it open for Trucy, trying to look at least a little more composed*
Trucy: *skips inside, looking up and down the hallway excitedly*
Wright: Third floor. Hit the elevator button, will you?
Trucy: *nearly pounces on the elevator button*
Trucy: Got it!
Wright: *grins again as he heads into the elevator*
Wright: You're pretty energetic today, Tru. Moreso than usual, even.
Trucy: It's Christmas time, Daddy! You're supposed to be happy.
Wright: Heh, that's true.
Adrian: *tries to glare at the feline sitting on the floor in front of her but doesn't entirely succeed*
Adrian: You aren't getting any more dinner.
Wright: I bet you're looking forward to the break from school, too, huh?
Trucy: Yup! School's dumb.
Wright: Well, you just have a few more years to go.
Wright: *steps off the elevator when it dings and opens up to the appropriate floor*
Trucy: *groans and follows Phoenix out*
Trucy: But that's a long time!
Wright: *teasingly* Just nine more years. It'll be over before you know it!
Wright: *knocks on 307E*
Trucy: *perks up again when she realizes they're at the apartment*
Adrian: *sets down her book on the couch and heads for the door, scooping up Shoe in her arms as she goes, because otherwise he's going to try to get out like he always does. She opens the door--then blinks in surprise, though it quickly morphs into a smile*
Adrian: M-Mr. Wright! And.. and... Trucy! I... wasn't expecting you--please, come in! *she steps back into the hallway, opening the door for them*
Wright: Sorry for the impromptu visit, but I did mention we were going to stop over with something...
Trucy: We brought a tree! *Trucy blurts out*
Adrian: Oh, you did--I... I just didn't expect it so soon... *she can't help but smile down at Trucy* A... tree? Just the two of you? I don't see a tree... Oh, could you--could you close the door behind you? He tries to get out if it's open.
Wright: *shuts the door after he and Trucy step into the apartment, and holds up the rather tiny tree he's holding*
Wright: It's... just a small one, since you mentioned you didn't have one.
Adrian: *sets Shoe down on the floor; he immediately runs up to Trucy, curious*
Trucy: *forgets all about the star when she sees that cat, and crouches down, petting Shoe happily*
Trucy: Hi Mr. Kitty~
Adrian: His name is Shoe, Trucy. He's... very friendly.
Adrian: *True to form, Shoe rubs up against the girl's hand as she pets him, purring affectionately*
Wright: *offers the miniature tree over to Adrian, along with the bag he's holding*
Adrian: *takes a tiny step back, pressing a hand to her breastbone, and blinks*
Adrian: I... you...
Adrian: *smiles honestly and genuinely as she takes the tree and bag from him*
Adrian: ...thank you, Mr. Wright. I'm... truly touched.
Wright: It's just thanks, for helping me with that resume from before. There are a few extra decorations in the bag.
Adrian: ...I told you, Mr. Wright. You didn't have to do anything, it wasn't any trouble. But... thank you so much for this gift. *she smiles again, a bit softly* I... can't tell you what it means to me.
Adrian: Please, come in, you two--you can sit down, rest a bit. *she says this as she heads into the living room, putting the bag down and setting the tree on top of the large oak table to the side*
Trucy: *perks again when she hears "decorations" and pops up*
Trucy: I brought the star! It goes on top.
Trucy: *waves it at Adrian*
Adrian: *smiles warmly down at Trucy, crouching down and taking the star from her*
Adrian: It's a lovely star, too.
Trucy: It's the best part.
Adrian: *begins taking the few decorations out of the bag--mainly just balls and the like with one brightly-colored glass Santa... though they look like they're the size for a normal tree, but that doesn't quite matter*
Adrian: You're right. It absolutely is.
Wright: *rubbing the back of his neck a little* Getting that job is what's allowed me to buy everyone presents in the first place. *glancing at Trucy* Plus, it's the holidays, after all.
Trucy: Yup!
Adrian: I... hm. *she pauses in thought, trying to figure out how best to decorate the tree... but first, caps the tree with the little yellow star*
Trucy: * goes back to petting Shoe*
Adrian: *smiles at Phoenix*
Adrian: So you got the job? That's great! I... knew you could, Mr. Wright. Are you enjoying it?
Wright: *nods* It's a decent amount of work, but it's something I'm interested in, after all.
Wright: *wryly* As opposed to flipping burgers at some fast food joint.
Adrian: That's... that's really good to hear. *she smiles, and then hears the teakettle whistle* Oh! I... I was making myself tea if you wanted anything, Mr. Wright, Trucy...? Please feel free.
Trucy: Is there hot chocolate?
Trucy: *opens her coat and tries to coax Shoe to hide inside, but he doesn't seem interested*
Adrian: Yes! I could make some hot chocolate, certainly. *Adrian tries to repress a little laugh at the girl's actions* And... would you like anything, Mr. Wright?
Wright: I'll have some too, thanks.
Wright: *raises an eyebrow slightly at Trucy*
Wright: I don't know how well cats work as magic assistants, Tru.
Adrian: ...hot chocolate or tea?
Wright: Oh, hot chocolate--please. *wryly* I don't really go for tea.
Adrian: All right then... make yourselves comfortable, please! I won't be a moment.
Trucy: *gives up on Shoe and instead climbs onto the sofa*
Trucy: Bunnies are better anyway.
Wright: *takes a seat beside her*
Wright: Have you thought of a name for the one you're getting yet?
Adrian: *hurries back into the kitchen to turn the stove off before grabbing three mugs from the cabinet and putting hot chocolate mix into two of them and tea leaves into the third. She pours steaming water into all three and then adds some milk to the two chocolates for texture, stirring them a bit with a spoon... putting them on a tray, and being very careful bringing it into the living room, setting it on the coffee table and sitting in one of her chairs*
Trucy: I haven't decided yet. I want to see them first.
Wright: Varan might bring them over when he comes over for Christmas. ...*frowns slightly at that thought*
Adrian: *can't help but have her curiosity mildly piqued, but it's really none of her business*
Adrian: They're very hot, you might... want to let it cool down first, Trucy.
Trucy: Thank you Miss Adrian.
Adrian: You're quite welcome.
Adrian: *smiles at her as Shoe jumps into her lap and begins to purr*
Wright: *leans forward, testing a mug's temperature with a hand*
Adrian: Do you... have any plans for Christmas, Mr. Wright?
Wright: We're going to have a bit of a party.
Trucy: *blows at her mug, but she's too far away from it for it to be effective*
Wright: *takes the mug, and holds it closer up to Trucy so she can blow at it better*
Wright: Maya and Pearls, and a, friend of Trucy's are coming over and having dinner.
Adrian: Oh! You must be looking forward to seeing them again!
Wright: Yeah, it's been a while.
Trucy: I'm going to do some magic.
Wright: How about you? What are you up to for Christmas?
Trucy: *pokes a finger into her hot chocolate to see if it's cool enough, and decides to blow on it some more*
Adrian: Oh... n-nothing too much. I was... mainly going to spend it by myself unless I could get in touch with Ms. von Karma, b-but she's probably got plans of her own and... *Adrian trails off* I... don't really have any plans, no.
Wright: *offers Trucy the mug after it seems sufficiently cooled*
Wright: *reaching to his mug* Oh... right. Franziska's back in town again.
Trucy: *finally takes a sip*
Adrian: Y-yes... she is. She's awfully busy with... with work and things, though, so I'm sure she's got plans. It's... fine, though. I'm all right just having it be Shoe and myself.
Adrian: *smiles, taking a sip of her tea*
Adrian: The tree will make it feel a lot more like Christmas, for one.
Wright: *lifts his mug, and takes a drink*
Adrian: *sets her own mug down, and for a second it seems that she's almost imagining something held in her hands, twitching her fingers slightly--too slightly for even her to notice she's doing it*
Trucy: *glances over, her eyes very focused*
Trucy: Are you okay, Miss Adrian?
Wright: *glances up from his mug*
Adrian: O-of course I am! I'm fine... why... would you think otherwise? *her fingers still seem to be playing with an object that isn't there*
Trucy: You play with your fingers when you're nervous. *Trucy says very matter-of-factly*
Adrian: *blinks, startled*
Adrian: I... what are you... how would you know...? Th-that's... I'm fine, really! *she tries to smile but it's obviously forced this time*
Trucy: 'Cause I saw you. Didn't you see her too, Daddy?
Trucy: *puts her mug down so she can wiggle her fingers as an example*
Wright: *frowns thoughtfully for a moment, and then shakes his head*
Wright: Not until you pointed it out, Tru.
Adrian: *is still a bit startled, and picks up her mug with one hand, stroking Shoe with the other so that she isn't doing anything anymore with her fingers*
Trucy: *makes a face at them*
Trucy: Well I saw it. Just like when Daddy sweats when HE'S nervous.
Wright: *looks as though he's trying to piece something together, but he shakes his head again instead of voicing his thoughts*
Wright: Let's not press Ms. Andrews too hard-- we're not in court, after all, Tru.
Adrian: *looks at Mr. Wright with obvious thanks on her face*
Trucy: *shrugs and picks up her mug again*
Adrian: I... that's... quite the talent you have, Trucy. *she sighs* I... it gets lonely this time of year, yes. And an... old friend... of mine used to really love winter. So... *She trails off*
Adrian: But... really, I'm fine, Trucy. Shoe keeps me good company, and I'm... truly grateful for you two bringing me this gift.
Wright: *having caught Adrian's drift, he occupies himself with finishing off his hot chocolate*
Trucy: Okay. I won't ask anymore. Are you going to put the tree up right now? *Trucy abruptly changes the topic*
Adrian: I'll want to make sure it's just right... so probably not right now. But later tonight, of course.
Trucy: Make sure you put the star on the top. That's where it goes.
Wright: *nods over at the tree with a slight smile*
Wright: Looks like she's already done so, Tru.
Trucy: *twists around to see*
Trucy: Oh. Well, good.
Trucy: It's the best part.
Adrian: You were probably a bit too focused on Shoe to notice. *Adrian smiles softly, sipping her tea again*
Adrian: I think so too.
Wright: *sets down his mug after a moment*
Wright: Well, we should get going-- there's quite a bit of decorating--and, uh cleaning-left for us to do as well.
Adrian: Oh. Well... I'm happy you stopped by. Both of you.
Adrian: *stands up, putting her own mug down as well*
Trucy: *gulps down most of the rest of her chocolate, spilling a little on her chin, before putting her mug down*
Wright: *turns toward Trucy and wipes her chin off with a finger before standing up as well*
Trucy: *hops to her feet*
Adrian: *smiles, picking Shoe up again so he won't escape*
Adrian: Thank you for coming, Mr. Wright, Trucy.
Adrian: And...
Adrian: ...thank you for your present. It means... more than you know.
Trucy: You're very welcome.
Trucy: *gives a magician bow*
Wright: *smiles, and nods*
Wright: Merry Christmas, Ms. Andrews.
Adrian: Merry Christmas, Mr. Wright. Merry Christmas, Trucy.
Adrian: Please give the Fey girls my best.
Wright: *heads over to the door*
Wright: We'll do that.
Trucy: Goodbye Miss Adrian!
Adrian: Goodbye! Have a safe walk home!
Wright: *opens up the door, waiting for Trucy to step through before he does*
Trucy: *skips out of the apartment, pausing to give Shoe a wave*
Adrian: *closes the door behind them, before setting Shoe down, putting the mugs back in the sink and washing them, and then going to properly decorate the tree*
Wright: *when the door shuts, he quietly resumes the line of thought that's been bugging him for a while*
Wright: *as he's walking down the hall toward the elevator* Back there... ...You have pretty good eyes, huh Tru?
Trucy: Yup.
Trucy: *clasps her hands behind her back*
Wright: *squinting a bit in thought before glancing down at her curiously* You said, a while ago, that when I got nervous--
Trucy: You sweat!
Trucy: *points to her forehead*
Wright: *rubs at his own a bit self-consciously, even though he isn't agitated at the moment*
Wright: How often do you notice these kinds of things?
Trucy: *gives that a moment of thought*
Trucy: When someone gets nervous, I guess.
Wright: .......That's got to be pretty often.
Trucy: I guess. *shrugging*
Wright: *hits the button for the elevator, then turns back to her*
Wright: Has anyone mentioned anything about this before, Tru?
Trucy: *scuffs her foot against the floor*
Trucy: I'm not really supposed to talk about it...but....
Trucy: *hesitates*
Wright: *squats down to Trucy's eye level*
Wright: Who told you you're not supposed to?
Trucy: *glances around suspiciously, then leans in to whisper in Phoenix's ear*
Trucy: Grandpa told me.
Wright: *looks baffled*
Wright: Grandpa...?
Wright: *more quietly* Uh... did he have this... ability too?
Trucy: *glances around again, and nods*
Trucy: It's magic. But...REAL magic. Not that it's not all real magic, but it's... REAL real magic.
Wright: *frowns slightly, but it only takes a moment for the doubt to clear off his face, and for him to nod*
Wright: *as he stands up* Will you tell me when I'm looking nervous? I could use a better poker face.
Trucy: *frowns a little*
Trucy: Do you really want to know...? Daddy didn't like me telling him before...
Wright: *nods*
Wright: It'd really help. I won't get angry if you do.
Trucy: Okay! If you say so.
Trucy: *hops into the elevator once it stops on their floor*
Wright: *steps inside, hitting the button for the ground floor*
Trucy: *glances up at Phoenix*
Trucy: Do you think it's weird?
Wright: Your ability? *tousles her hair a little, grinning* Not at all.
Wright: You're special, that's all. ...My special girl.
Trucy: *grins, and hugs Phoenix around the waist happily*
Wright: *curls an arm around her, smiling as he hugs her back*
Trucy: Do you want me to tell you when someone else is nervous? *sounding a bit mischievous*
Wright: *contemplatively* Hmm... well, it wouldn't hurt. But only if you think it's important.
Wright: It's not always a good idea to... use one's powers to pry.
Trucy: I'm not prying. THEY'RE the ones doing it.
Trucy: *squirms a little, because she knows she's splitting hairs*
Wright: You can't help noticing it, true. *pokes her nose lightly* But calling them on it is a different story.
Trucy: Then how about I just whisper it in your ear?
Wright: Well... alright. *grins*
Trucy: *giggles*
Wright: *steps out of the elevator when it opens up again, heading towards the exit*
Trucy: *takes Phoenix's hand once they're outside the building*
Trucy: Thanks, Daddy.
Wright: Hmm? What for?
Trucy: For not thinking it's weird. I wasn't supposed to talk about it before.
Wright: *gives her hand a squeeze*
Wright: I've seen... quite a few things, in my time.
Wright: So don't be afraid to tell me anything, okay?
Trucy: Okay! But that's all the magic I have. I mean, not that the rest isn't magic...
Trucy: *squirms*
Trucy: Don't tell anyone I said that.
Wright: *laughs*
Wright: I won't. But you practice hard so you can impress everyone come Christmas, okay?
Trucy: *nods with great determination*
Trucy: I will!
Wright: ...I'll also need your help with cleaning up the apartment.
Trucy: ...Okay! *said with significantly less determination*
Wright: *with a similarly reluctant tone* ...And... did you want to try your hand at baking as well?
Trucy: Okay! I can make breakfast now, after all.
Wright: *a little hurriedly*... I'll add the ingredients. But you can help with the mixing, and putting the dough on the pans. *mumbles something about having to pick up pans along with the ingredients*
Trucy: Can I cut out cookies, too?
Wright: Sure, that too. And I guess we'll want some icing and sprinkles to decorate them.
Trucy: Okay! Lots of them!
Wright: *hmms*
Wright: We'll need to go get the present for you too, sometime.
Trucy: *looks up at him curiously*
Trucy: What present?
Wright: Well, not including anything for the practicing magician... I was wondering if you wanted a pair of earrings for Christmas, Tru.
Trucy: Earrings? Like clip ons?
Wright: *smiles a little* If you'd like. If you want to though, you could also get your ears pierced.
Trucy: Pierced!? *Trucy blinks in surprise* With holes and everything?
Wright: *nods* If you want to; that's how it's usually done.
Trucy: *considers very carefully*
Trucy: Do you think it would make me look more like a magician?
Wright: *thinks for a moment*
Wright: I guess it'd depend on the type of earring you wear, which is why I wanted you to pick it out. But yeah, it could.
Trucy: Great! I can't wait!
Trucy: *swings Phoenix's hand happily*
Wright: *lets his hand swing with hers, grinning again as they continue on walking down the street*
