Haven't made a public post since August. Terrible. The constant stress of producing 140-character messages on Twitter and reasonable-length different posts on Facebook pretty much saps all my writing energy, but I really like Twitter's format. The length restriction really does force you to think about what you're writing and optimize for what you want to say - something that my incoherent ramblings here have never really had much of a shot at. Plus there's no formatting, so I don't get to use excessive italics when I ought to be using colorful (and succinct) verbiage instead.
The other overriding factor is that my LJ account is old. My first post goes back to when I was 18 years old. That's older than some people's kids. That's pre-9/11. That's me listening to Creed for the first three posts and talking lots about Everquest. To show someone this blog is to show them a version of me that I barely recognize anymore, and that creates a lot of vulnerability for people whom I've just met (as compared to say,
sararah, whom I've known for over a decade and remembers when I was a total spaz).
And speaking of new people, there's Olga, whom many of you have already met or will hopefully meet in the near future. She pointed out tonight that we saw each other every day (by the wall clock, at least) for the past 7 days, and are not yet at each other's throats. It's functional and non-crazy to an extent which is entirely unfamiliar to me.
