Day 4821
Well, I was going to take Emily to see the new Harry Potter yesterday. Unfortunately, she's been acting out since Eric was here... not too badly but bad enough. At one point, I told her that if she didn't do so and so that we wouldn't be going to see it... and of course, she didn't so I had to make good on the threat. I felt really badly because it also meant that I had to call my friend who was going with us and cancel and I know he was looking forward to it quite a lot.
On the other hand, I bullied the girls into some glad rags and took them and had the family portrait made that my Dad asked for as his Christmas gift. It was only somewhat difficult... Liz was quite cooperative but Emily kept grimacing every time the photographer said "Smile!" and so ruined quite a lot of the shots. I finally got disgusted and told the photographer to keep that one... and several after it, none of which were all that good. Then we got two really really good shots of Liz in lieu of her school pictures this year and a solo portrait of me (the first one since my high school senior portrait). Then we did what shopping had to be done (and Liz did some of her christmas shopping)and came home so I feel like we accomplished a lot.
I'm way behind on my christmas shopping... I should have started much much earlier. At this rate, I will still be shopping after Thanksgiving which is something I try every year to avoid. Next year, I swear, I am started my Christmas shopping on the 28th of January. (Before that, I have to shop for Liz's birthday.) This year is made a little better by the fact that I am not going to have to shop for my friends overseas as I can't afford to post the packages. Sorry guys, with postage going through the roof, I'll be able to manage a card but not anything heavier.
