Day 2651: Christmas Baking Day!

Dec 13, 2008 09:36

Last night was Family Movie Night at Em's school. We went and I was disappointed at how few people were there. They had planned for 400 and there were maybe 40... including parents who were required to stay and supervise. The movie was Anabelle's Wish which I am not very fond of but Em loves. I don't understand why more people didn't take advantage of a Friday night free movie that the children could watch with their friends.

I'm a bit sad this weekend because one of my friends' mother died Tuesday. I'm very sorry for her... even though it was expected any time it's still hard... and a bit sorry for me.
I can't go to the funeral and I'm glad for that because I want to remember her Mom at the moment when we were teens, leaving for Waffle House, telling us that they're called "waffles" because that's the sound they make hitting the floor.. 'waffle'! with this cute little knee bend and both palms parallel to the floor by her faded jeans seams. Her hair was bright white and short and curly, she was a small woman... shorter than me by that time... and she had bright brown eyes that shone through her glasses with laughter.
That's how I remember this woman.,.. that's how I always want to remember this woman.

Yesterday I finally got my copy of Tales of Beedle the Bard... lovely book! I'm such a geek...

Today is Christmas Baking Day! besides my regular weekend housework, we're going to be baking sugar cookies and "kiss" cookies and chocolate chip cookies... and maybe more! I have a whole gallon of milk and more coffee than an army could drink if anyone wants to stop by for samples as they come out of the oven. This year I am not going to be making jam cakes... they're too expensive, I'm afraid... but I will be trying my baked Brie recipe again. While I have the oven hot, you know. I've also go to come up with something savory for dinner... not sure what yet.

Tomorrow will be Wrapping Day. Actually all my gifts are wrapped... but they need ribbons and bows and prettied... so that and Christmas cards will be what I'm doing tomorrow.

Christmas makes me happy...
