Well I didn't think I'd be able to make it but the boss man switched some days around on us and I was able to go see VNV Nation tonight.
ended up going alone, though I thought I knew a million people that were supposed to go I only saw one Champaign person I knew and Heather and her sister.
The Drive up was slow (20 mph in places) and real stupid, I had a douchebag in a semi literally stop in front of me on I94 in sleet. I nearly slid right into the fucker. Then this guy starts to back up. well like I said I had nearly slid into him, I was right fuckin there! So there I am Honkin and screamin. I threw the grand am into reverse but there was 2 cars sitting there right behind me just as screwed as I was. So this guy's partner hops out of the truck, once again on I94 at 9:30pm in bumper to bumper traffic in the sleet. So this guy is out there and he is backing him up MORE! so I'm still honking and cursing at the guy cause now I can't get into the left lane without backing up or hitting the protruding bumper of his truck.anyhow, the guy behind me managed to get out of the right lane we were stuck in. so once he moved I could back up and some guy in a van let me into the left hand lane.
The rest of the trip was noneventfull
Got to the Metro, saw Heather and Andrea almost immediatly running past Wrigleyville Dogs. I parked and went in Bought me a nice VNV button up shirt.
and by the time I got up stairs Coder 23 was onstage ripping it up, they did good. I looked around for some Champaign crowd people or folks I know from the Neo, but no luck. the show was already PACKED. Damn packed for a late show on Tue in shitty conditions
VNV Nation came on shortly after Coder 23 left stage. I've seen a TON of bands live. Few even come close to where VNV was tonight, the sheer energy in that room blows most of the shows I've ever been to away. The lights and sound, the AV was all decked out in exelent fasion, not the best monitor work er anything like that and STILL VNV wiped the slates of most bands in the area of pure Stage Presence. Ronin and Mark OWNED that stage and that crowd from the second the house dropped the lights for their set. crowd interaction was the best I've ever even heard of ever. Funny stories and anicdotes, talking w/ people, just being themselves!
I may sound like a hopeless fanboy, but whatever. it's my oppinion so deal
After the show I said good bye to Heather and Andrea, probobly a bit quicker than I'd have liked in the long run. It was cold I felt rushed.
Anyhow went down to SmartBar for the afterparty. at this point on, it's just me. Met Mark from VNV Nation fist, and I told him how I felt about the show, and he was really gracious and friendly. he signed my DVD and I bounced off all giddy to go find Ronin
OKay fuck it's too late to continue my story... so more later
