Well well well, what can I say. IT FUCKING ROCKED!!! =D Yeah, I knew it would, you knew it would, we ALL knew it would. And it did!
They opened with Ghost of Pedition, as I suspected they might. Lets face it, its a great opener. It works for the album so it was going to work for the concert. *sighs* So much awesomeness, I don't know where to begin. Well the set list was as follows (but not particularly in this exact order):
* Ghost of pedition
* White cluster
* Blackwater park
* Baying of the hounds
* Deliverance
* The amen corner
* The grand conjuration
* Under the weeping moon
* um....there was something from the Damnation album, not sure what though
* Soldier of fortune (which was a cover of a ...... Deep Purple song?)
.......I don't know if I forgot anything, if anyone knows if/what I've forgotten let me know.
Also there was lots of banter with the crowd from Mikael, he was cracking jokes left, right and centre. Its always good to get that kind of interaction, it really sucks when you go to see some performers that you idolise and they just get up there, do their thing, then piss off. Well this isn't the case with Opeth. It's funny though, I remeber the first time they came to Aus and played a concert that they were so humble. Mikael like thanked the crowd after every song and told us that we were all great fans and stuff. This time at the end of the concert he was all like "Please let us come back to your country, please". Like hell we wouldn't!! I'd have to cry if they weren't ever going to come back. I give it a year for them to get another album done and out, then they'll be on another tour and hopefully be back here.
Its always so amazing how awesome Opeth sound live! You go and see alot of other bands and they often end up sounding alot different than they done on their albums. But Opeth always sounds almost near perfect to their albums, aside from the obviously improvised sections, and I'm sure that the only real sound difference we hear is due to a venue's sound system. They are always perfect. Apparently it was also the largest attending crowd (in Aus) that they've had so far.
*sighs* Ahhhhh Opeth *sighs* I can't put into words how awesome you guys are.
