Well, that was unexpected.

I got up this morning full of plans about getting the laundry done and then taking a nap with Pat and watching football in the afternoon and evening, and saying fuck you and goodbye to 2021.

But as I was gathering the laundry I got a phone call from the donor room at the blood bank. They were desperately looking for people who could come in and donate platelets. They literally had none on the shelf, and it was critical to get as many donations today as possible.

So I said I would come in and donate. I can donate triples, which is not that common. Most people don't want to be on the machine for the over 90 minutes it takes to donate a triple. I figure that since I can actually give triples, I should give triples whenever I go in.

So off I went, carrying my Kindle with me so I'd have something to read. I was only on the machine for 91 minutes. Generally it's at least 93, so I was cool with that.

Then they found out that I had come in on my day off. To say that the donor staff was stunned is an understatement. They couldn't believe that I had given up part of my day off to donate.

Well, it was an emergency, right? What was I going to do? Let someone potentially die because I would rather do laundry than donate? It's not like I was out partying or anything.

But now I'm back home and it all went well. They got three nice big units, and I'm back doing laundry and watching football. Pretty much as I planned my day!

And I still get to say fuck you and goodbye to 2021 tonight!
