Emma the Art Major

Since I am technically an art major I suppose I can share some of my work.  These are two projects for my drawing class. They're pretty random, but really, when is art NOT random?

This first one really has nothing to do with drawing as near as I could tell.  We were supposed to use "found paper" as the background then takeing objects spray-paint over the top of them then fill in with your drawing medium of choice, charcoal, ink, etc.

I "found" some discarded newspapers in the big dumpsters at the recycle center here in town.  I tore out chunks of text, no pictures, and glued them to my back-ground paper.  Then I went around campus and in my very own back-yard and found some sticks and leaves.  Then I went into the garden shed and found various colors of spray-paint.
The lay the sticks on the paper and painted over them in gold.  It didn't really work as well as I'd hoped so I traced the un-painted areas with india ink.  The maples leaves I painted with pink paint and the magnolia leaves were blue.  I was going to leave it at that but on the advice of Alta and one of my class-mates decided that what it *really* needed was glitter.  The glitter areas were supposed to be the veins in the maple leaves but turned out looking more like snow-flakes.  I wasn't sure I liked it at first but then decided that it can be a symbol of the transition between fall and winter.
Half of this art stuff is just BSing when something doesn't turn out quite how you thought it would.

And then there's this one.  It's really bizzare I'll be the first to admit that.  I do REALLY like it though.  This assignment we were supposed to use dramatic shadeing, repeating shapes, and use of scale to project an emotive content.  Or some such nonsense.  Some discussion with my class-mates lead to the conclusion that we're supposed to be showing our emotions and feelings at the time of doing the drawing.  Well at the moment I often feel Next Baby trying to beat/kick its way out so I decided to roll with it.  This one is done entirely in charcoal.
