The boys at work sitting next to me are talking about football so i thought I'd squee at you about my new shinies (any excuse hey :)).

I finally got my valourous sholders last night :D.

Admittedly I didnt actually win them I paid for them with embelems since I have AWFUL luck with rolls but its still yay.

What you've described is the exact reason that I love the DKP system my guild uses for 25 man. It may sound lootwhorish but I like to be certain that I'm going to get the items I want!

We use /roll in 10 man and I never won a single roll against someone. I hated it so much.

The tops dpsing mage in my guild never wins a roll with us. Our least DPSing mage has most BiS gear, but he's often BELOW THE TANKS in 25-man raids, like Patchwerk. It's quite sad.

yeah i find that problem as well.....although the other top mage in our guild is starting to out pace me consistently with his 4 pieces of valorous and 3 other BiS items and me with my hero gloves and blue hat. the other mages all have better gear than me and all do consistenly 1k dps less, although tempting to blame spec (i'm arcane, the one mentioned above is fire and the others are frostfire) i wonder if that isnt the entire reason.

I could not deal with a /roll system long term. It's fine for random PUGs or whatever, but a raid guild using that as their actual loot system? Especially in 25's? That's just dumb and it's bound to lead to problems.

The idea they are getting at is that it takes away any human element from the loot distribution and therefore minimises arguements or drama.

Their arguements are...loot council will always have the tendency of being accused of corruption (giving stuff to your best mate), DKP has the ability to be horded by players so that one person will save up for the uberleet weapon while not rolling on a number of smaller upgrades which would benefit the raid as a whole, and EPGP is baised towards people that can play more. The principle is that you can roll on as many pieces as you like but have some consideration to everyone else in the raid.

This of course works all very well in principle but there is nothing in the rules about rolling and winning 5 pieces in one night except for your on conscience...which when it comes to shiny pixels very few people have.

I get that it's supposed to be more objectively "fair", but how is it fair for someone to waltz into their first raid and win uber-shiney-happy-thing with a lucky roll when someone else has been on every single raid since Wrath launched and has been dying for uber-shiney-happy-thing only to lose it to a scrub in blues?

yep totally with you on that.
Luckily it hasnt happened in quite that way to me.....I just NEVER win rolls....I usually watch the nice shinies go to the mage/lock/healer/clothy/druid/other class who has better gear and does less dps than me :)

I had to buy mine too, I've only seen my token once and I didn't win it, so I don't feel bad "wasting" badges on shoulders.

If you have to do the roll thing, maybe it could be like if you win you pass on the next item that is an upgrade for you just so someone different has a chance of winning something.
