I could not deal with a /roll system long term. It's fine for random PUGs or whatever, but a raid guild using that as their actual loot system? Especially in 25's? That's just dumb and it's bound to lead to problems.

The idea they are getting at is that it takes away any human element from the loot distribution and therefore minimises arguements or drama.

Their arguements are...loot council will always have the tendency of being accused of corruption (giving stuff to your best mate), DKP has the ability to be horded by players so that one person will save up for the uberleet weapon while not rolling on a number of smaller upgrades which would benefit the raid as a whole, and EPGP is baised towards people that can play more. The principle is that you can roll on as many pieces as you like but have some consideration to everyone else in the raid.

This of course works all very well in principle but there is nothing in the rules about rolling and winning 5 pieces in one night except for your on conscience...which when it comes to shiny pixels very few people have.

I get that it's supposed to be more objectively "fair", but how is it fair for someone to waltz into their first raid and win uber-shiney-happy-thing with a lucky roll when someone else has been on every single raid since Wrath launched and has been dying for uber-shiney-happy-thing only to lose it to a scrub in blues?

yep totally with you on that.
Luckily it hasnt happened in quite that way to me.....I just NEVER win rolls....I usually watch the nice shinies go to the mage/lock/healer/clothy/druid/other class who has better gear and does less dps than me :)

It's happened to me once: lost out on a very good gun to a hunter who was underperforming, but hey, there's always next week.

So your guild doesn't even roll with the "one epic, one tier per night/raid" rule? That's giving people far too much credit for courtesy, imo, especially in a loot-hungry setting like a raid.

Actually, that's one of the reasons the Vault is so damned nice. I was able to obtain t7 & t7.5 pieces from Archavon within a month simply by running PUG Vaults.

However, I was extremely lucky, but that's one of the ways of obtaining raid gear without having to deal with guild politics. Another method is simply using tokens to buy the equipment. Also, for hunters, at least, two BIS pieces are BOE, which is also nice.
