I talked a little bit about my guild's current problems in terms of lack of leadership before, and there's been a new devolpment.
The Guild Leader finally logged on for more than 15 minutes and had a chat with one of the most respected officers (not me). Despite the fact that we are hemoraging high levels and the lowbies are really disrespectful and constantly pester the higher levels for instance runs soley for twink gear, our GL doesn't think anything is wrong.
He thinks that the fact that the guild runs itself with no intervention from him...is good. It's not. The counsel of officers can't implement the changes to invite power that it needs to, nor can we enforce an invite policy because of lack of administrative tools available only to the GL.
We just can't convince him that we want to take this a little more seriously. I've been with this guild for 60 levels. I got in when there were only 10 people and it was basically a caster-guild. I know I have a guild I can go to if this gets to be too much trash to handle, but I want to make this work. But the counsel has effectively shanghaied leadership from the GL and he thinks this is a good thing. Wtf? What is he not getting here?
Here's the deal: Should we keep eating away at the GL's effective power with not so much as a peep from him? Or should the 6 of us officers who can go elsewhere as a group do so? I never signed up for leading a guild, and I'm effectively serving as a guild co-leader. I'm suddenly the one all the lowbies look to when they want the warlock to stop teasing them or they want to know the ventrillo information (there's a two week trial period for new members before they get the vent info. We've had some bad experiences), or when they want to know why no one is answering their cries for gold so they can buy some piece of overpriced twink gear they see on auction. Most of them know better than to ask me for dungeon runs, and the onese that don't soon learn ("I pug'd my way through Stockades and so can you. That's how you meet new potential friends"). Suddenly I'm Mary Friggin' Poppins taking care that none of our twelve year old guild memebers' feelings get hurt when what I really want to do is kick some Auchenai Crypts ass! Scheduling instance runs and getting people motivated I can do. I'm okay with being a cheerleader, not a babysitter.
