The dungeon finder is VERY easy at low levels, and there is no such thing as an unsuitable spec, really--as a holy priest you should be able to get by perfectly well with flash heal + PW: shield until you get renew and heal in the mid-twenties. Disc priests have a slightly bigger toolbox at that level because they get penance at level 10, but that's about it. In all likelihood, once you're comfortable, you will end up DPSing some just because there's not all that much to do healing-wise at that level unless you get an awful group. You start with a small toolbox because at that level you honestly don't need that many tools; flash heal is a mana drain at end-game but at low levels your mana is basically infinite anyway so it doesn't matter.
Personally I've always prioritized int above spirit at low levels because, like I said, you pretty much never run out of mana unless things go completely crazy. That said, the bulk of my experiences have been from before 5.0.4, so someone else may have more up-to-date input. Ideally you want pieces with both int and spirit on them.
You obviously know to expect asshats. There are particular brands of asshat tanks and DPS who will blame everything on the healer. If you have trouble healing a particular group and they blame it on you, but you're fine with other groups, don't listen to them. They're probably standing in fire or wearing cloth as a tank or something equally ridiculous and trying to pin it on you to shift the blame off of themselves. If you're leveling a healer via the dungeon finder, you need to have a thick skin, because you'll get insults hurled at you on a fairly frequent basis if you get a lot of bad groups and it can get really discouraging at times.
I would recommend picking up a healing addon of some sort; I find that the default UI is really clunky for healing. I use a combination of Grid + Clique, myself (mostly Grid), which are both very simple to set up, and I've also heard great things about Vuhdo (which is slightly more complicated).
