Hey all!
I have some really noob questions about healing and dungeons. I'm not a noob to the game (I've been playing for over 4 years), but I've never taken on a healing role before.
I've played tanks for the last two years (my main is my Prot warrior, and I also have a Blood DK and a Prot Pally). Prior to that, I tended toward DPS (Demo Warlocks BM Hunters, a Kitty Druid, and a Combat Rogue). I've levelled several toons to 80 and beyond, so I'm familiar with the game itself.
I'm utterly sick of questing on my lowbies (I'm taking my Prot Warrior through Pandaria, but that's all new to me). It's getting to the point where if I see the same questgivers again in Ghostlands or Northern Barrens (for the sixtieth time), I'm going to want to gouge my eyes out with a blunt object. I have no desire to do battlegrounds, which leaves the dungeon finder. And, I'd really, really like to try running dungeons.
I've never used it before. When I first started playing the game, I was on satellite internet, and my latency was horrific. I'd tried grouping a few times, but sometimes, there would be a seven to ten-second lag between me and whoever else was in the group. I knew that every second counted, so I'd never inflicted myself on others in a dungeon or raid setting. Once I'd moved to the city, and got true high-speed internet, I'd already been soloing for so long, I was afraid to try doing dungeons in a group on my higher-level toons (due to lack of experience).
I've decided to start as a dungeon noob on a brand new baby toon.
Now, that being said, I'm not completely clueless about the dungeons themselves. I've simply taken a higher-level toon and soloed them (I know it's not the same, but I do know the general layout, where the trash is, and where the bosses are). I know there are a ton or resources out there for me to learn what's what for any specific instance, and I love my research.
I'd like to level a priest and try healing/leveling through dungeons. I rolled one yesterday, got him to level 9, and today is the day I ding 10 and pick his spec.
I was considering going Holy, but Disc also seems like a viable option. I was looking at the talent calculator, and neither seems great at level 15 (when the LFD option becomes available). I pretty much have Flash Heal, and that's it (unless I'm missing something).
I get Flash Heal at 7 (a mana drain?), Meditation (on both specs, passive) at 10, and then nothing substantial until level 28 (Heal).
The remainder of the abilities seem to center around damage, and if I'm not mistaken, it's the healer's job to JUST heal, not throw DPS around (or, am I wrong?).
Which spec is best at level 15? Which spec is most suitable for the dungeon levelling process? Is it even possible to heal a 5-man at level 15 with Flash Heal alone?
I'm guessing that gear should have SPI and INT, primarily, with SPI taking precedence over INT? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. One of my 80+ alts is a tailor, so I can decently gear myself for the first run.
What should I expect my first time around in the dungeon finder? I know there are a lot of asshats out there, and I'm sure I'll end up grouping with a few, but I know there are good players, too.
Are there any addons I should be using? Macros? Glyphs and make-or-break talents?
Any other suggestions? I appreciate (and I thank you in advance for) any advice that's offered!
