I don't believe the mats are BoP.

I was working on farming mats for this for my SO. you can get the vendor items at a discount via the guild perk (bartering?).

in the end, since I did not have an alchemist or the mats for all the truegold/flasks... I tallied up the cost of buying the mats I didn't have on the AH and it coincided with how much gold the mount was currently going for. so instead I just used all the gold I farmed to buy Vial off the AH for around 40k. which I thought was a decent price considering they usually go for 45k or so on my server.

I was pretty impatient though. if you can grind all the mats on your own then it should cost around 35-37k not counting tip? I think

I'd probably tip around 1k if you can spare it. as far as people to trust, it might be worth checking if a veteran member in your guild has the pattern?

on a side note, maybe it'd be worth outlining in CHAT some kind of deal. like "I am trading you x, y, z [mats] and by accepting the trade you are agreeing to craft and trade me a Vial of the Sands"-- that might provide some extra insurance. I think if trade rules are spelled out clearly in chat log, that then if someone steals your mats and doesn't make/trade the mount, you can petition them for scamming. I think that's how that works anyway. that is, if you have to trust a stranger.

This, basically. It should be no problem at all to contact a GM with a ticket if someone takes off with the mats (or gold) without giving you the mount, so no need to be scared as long as you clearly spell out in-game what the deal is.

I'd definitely hit up my old guildmate, but unfortunately, there's exactly one person in my guild with the recipe and he's been on hiatus for the last couple months due to real life.

Between all my alts, I did manage to grind all the mats on my own (with the help of a guildie on the last transmute I needed so I wouldn't have to wait the extra day). For me, that was way easier than saving the money and buying off the AH. Getting to 29K saved up just for the vendor mats took months. (I'm not very good at playing the AH, sadly.)

Thanks for the tip on the "extra insurance". Haha. I never would have thought to clearly spell it out like that. I'd've been way too nervous about contacting a "stranger" in the first place. I get really anxious in social sitches like that.
