Faction Politics

Jun 17, 2011 02:37

I'm writing a fanfic, and I want to know some details on faction politics and relations? Like little particulars. I get the intra-faction prejudice, somewhat (mostly the blatant belf-undead versus tauren-orc etc), but I would like stuff on how racial leaders feel towards racial leaders. Besides Thrall/Jaina, since I'm looking for intra lol. Are ( Read more... )

- Ditto for the draenei, though they at least seem to trust and work with the night elves to some extent, and I don't think it's a matter of them being isolationist so much as not having had time to adapt and the other races thinking they're weird. Still, they're culturally and geographically VERY isolated.

- The Gilneans... NEED the Alliance very badly right now, but are not naturally well disposed to needing anything or anyone. I think they like the nelves better than they like Stormwind, simply because they'd probably have an easier time asking for help from complete outsiders than being weak in front of people who last saw them in a position of strength.

(I exceeded the comment limits. Nature's way of saying I talk too much, I guess.)

This is really interesting!

As for Thrall and Gallywix, I think that maybe Thrall had some modicum of regard for the goblins, but Garrosh does not have the regard for them AND distrusts Gallywix.

Thrall's only mistake with Gallywix was letting him live. *sigh* The goblins go for money in a leader (Trade Prince) - it buys loyalty. And unfortunately, you as a new goblin player helped fund Gallywix's continuation in power.

I don't see him as Thrall's explicit choice for the Horde-faction of goblins leader, but Thrall was definitely a little too distracted at that time -- what with the whole world being torn apart and all --, still he really should have offed him instead. *sigh*

My money's still on Her Tallness stepping up and taking over the Bilgewater Cartel sometime in the future... *^_^*

Well this is something! It makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

And I read her page and I hope so too.

I just saw her in game too. Please the Prince is a buffoon, nobody likes him, especially anybody who played through the Goblin starter area. I hope Blizz have set him up for a fall. Who wants a faction leader even people of that race don't like?

Blizzard recently hinted that there may be some future tension between Varian and his son.

Oh man I do so like Anduin. I'm normally a Horde player, but I just got my first Ally toon to 84 and did the pre-chain for Twilight Highlands. GO GO PRIEST BUBBLE!

Anduin rocks so hard. I adore that kid. 1000% smarter than his dad.

That the night elves in game have changed shows that the game designers have fucked up, not that the night elves should now be treated as crybabies. And I'd be very careful about judging someone by the insults their enemies fling at them ( ... )

Okay. Keep in mind what Moira did. Moira locked down Ironforge, kidnapped the son of a leader of the Alliance and the dwarves weren't happy with her heavy handed tactics. When Varian came and restored order the other dwarven clans were relieved by his actions, although Anduin was the real hero by stopping his daddy from doing something really stupid. I never said that they were lining the streets cheering him ( ... )

"Probably, probably". Sorry, but since they haven't even to the best of my knowledge said he IS in charge of the Alliance, just that he acts like it, "probably" isn't going to cut much ice against the fact the other leaders would be rampantly STUPID to give up their sovereignty. (Also, how is it that in the absence of certain knowledge Varian was probably democratically elected, but in the absence of certain knowledge the Warchief is probably a dictator?)

And how is he the supreme military commander if he doesn't actually command except when the others let him?

No, he just held a sword to their current leader's throat and said, you better share your power little girl, because I'm Varian and my word is law...

You can say all you like about how Moira was misbehaving and I'll agree with you, but stop trying to claim that on the ONE hand he can enforce something like that, but on the OTHER hand he isn't a dictator, isn't the sovereign of the Alliance, isn't intruding on the territory and rights of the dwarves.

I think that if it weren't for one thing and one thing alone, Moira/the dwarves would have been well within their lawful rights to toss his beardless human ass out into the snow.

Unfortunately, there is the not-so-tiny matter of a kidnapped heir to the throne. I'm pretty sure war has been declared for less.

Yes, and if Varian had declared war on the dwarves I wouldn't have this problem, because then he'd be treating the dwarves as a sovereign people instead of as subjects whose government he can freely interfere in.
