The gender swap :)

I have a tale to tell.

The guild master of my guild just stepped down because he's going to focus on his career and decided to give up on the raiding game. So, his second in command gets promoted, huzzah. We are told to not leave the raid yet, because he's got an announcement to make. Alright, this bloke never says anything on Ventrilo, so we wait for him to type something, some people jokingly tell him to go on and say something on Ventrilo, being the new Ruler and all! We hear a bit of stumbling on our speakers and out comes a soft voice and it turns out... it's a GIRL! So, apparently, in the almost 2 years that the guild has existed, noone knew her real gender. Everyone always thought it was a guy, being a strong male orc and all. I wasn't that surprised, I actually thought it was a girl when I joined the guild a few months ago, but kept getting told to say "he" instead of "she" so I adapted. Now the truth came out and boy, did the guild go crazy. I even had someone in my whisper saying he'll miss his old friend, because they used to be PvP buddies (why used to?) and taught him the ropes and everything and now that it turned out to be a girl, he felt betrayed about his friendship because he thought they were real buddies and it was all a lie, a girl taught him pvp? Insane! (oh, so that's why you quit the arena team?) Say what? What does the gender have to do with it? I'm pretty sure that this new guild master will still be the awesome person she's always been!

It was to be expected to be honest. We have an IRL meeting coming up and she's one of the people that has opened her house for people to stay in. I guess telling it up front will make the transition for some easier. I guess it would be a bit weird if people would stand in her doorway, jaw dropping. Haha. Not everyone was being an ass about it (99% was cool), but some really didn't know how to react and it still is the topic of discussion on Vent.

I'm pretty impressed that she managed to keep it secret from most of the guild for this long! Tough gal! On the other hand, one of the other women in the guild came into my whisper and told me she was worried that things might get nasty. The guild's been struggling lately, we need new recruits and we've been getting quite some slack of people not showing up. But that's been under the wings of the old chief, we're wondering if in a few months if things don't go up (and seeing it's exam time and holiday time is coming up, to be expected), people will start saying stupid things like: "that's what you get for putting a girl in charge". Brrr, I hope that never happens, I like this guild as it is and so far except for this crazy night, never thought any of our girls was mistreated in any way. Hope they won't freak out, just because a GM changed gender. Ooof!
