The magical doorway holds great significance for me. The transformative power of doorways, of crossing the threshold: the choice to enter; the distinction of being on the other side, from "there" to "here"...there's something energetically irreversible about stepping through the portal. Eleggua is the guardian of the gate, in my tradition. He opens doors, or closes them--on your behalf, to prevent harm or present opportunity; or, if you are hard-headed and need hard lessons to match, he'll open the doors to those too. Where there is a portal, there you will find Eleggua.
In the past two weeks, I've had the good fortune to engage two different portals for transformation. One, on Christmas day, while out on a hike with my beloved. The other, on New Years day, again on a hike with my beloved. The first portal was a thin, long tree, bent over the trail from winds long past, and supported by a thick branch someone had set up to hold it. I immediately saw this archway as a portal, and became excited. After explaining to the girl the opportunity this portal presented, we set a personal intention for ourselves...and walked through the portal. The determination I made that day, I have been fulfilling ever since, as has the girl with hers. What was most notable about this portal is that, after only a few more steps down the path, we looked back to find the portal...gone! The tree was still there, of course, but the branch that had been holding it up as an archway was gone. There was no arch, there was no portal. It was as though the archway had been there only for us, and having served its purpose, closed. What an amazing experience that was.
On New Years day, the girl and I were again on a hike, this time around a lake not too far from my home. We were on the last quarter of the trail, when we came across two posts at the end of a bridge across the lake. Once again, I saw a portal in the presence of the posts. As we stood before the posts, discussing the presence and meaning of the gateway there in front of us, a number of other couples and individuals came along the trail. Though the posts stood right before the bridge, not a single person walked between those posts while we waited. Every last hiker walked *around* the posts, though the most direct route was through them! Clearly, this portal was *ours* to enter! Looking at the girl, I declared an intention for the portal, to which she whole-heartedly agreed. Clasping hands, with smiles on our faces and delight in our hearts, we hopped through the portal. On the other side, we stood together, both the same and forevermore transformed. There could have been no better way to celebrate the New Year, than to have been together on this hike and through this portal.
Through and forward and ever onward, in alignment and with gratitude for every step, for every doorway, for every portal along the path. Maferefun, Eleggua! May the road remain open so that we may all fulfill our destinies!
