Poetry-Walk Away

This is about someone I tried to help. Now I see it was pointless to try, because the person was already too far gone.

Wear your heart on your sleeve and it'll be broken
Hide it away deep inside and nobody will find it
Kill it and it will never hurt you again, numb forever
Because sometimes it is better to be a zombie
Than it is to be rejected and torn apart
It hurts less to stay withdrawn within yourself
Hands that will not reach out for help, so disconnected
Mind that stays clouded in your own pain, sorrow consuming thoughts
Now you can't function, can't even breathe, just lying on the ground
Covered in trash, the weakling you have become, will fight no more
You gave up on yourself and you gave up on me, I still stand by you
But you can not see me, can't hear my voice, can not feel my hugs
You were already gone before you met me, your heart is cold
Those words you spoke reached my ears and brought me to tears
Not because of what you said, I know you're hurt so badly right now
Destroyed me to see I let you down, know you are there dying slowly
Will not let me lift you up and show you the beauty in the world
The flowers growing beside the body you no longer wanted
Remain trapped in yourself and the damaged person you've become
Eyes dark, but the river was so bright, so peaceful, so very unlike you
Appeciate the good times, understanding how bad things can be
But you are closed to all of that now, blinded by your problems
Stop and stay, so much you haven't done and known
Life isn't all bad, but now you will never truly know, can't get it
All because you chose not to, gave up before you were really suppose to
I'm forced to let you go, you pushed me too far away, make your own choice
But know that I cared as you take your last breath away from yourself

art, dead, sad, pain, suicide, die, heart, sorrow, broken, poetry
