unofficial HANDbook of the marvel universe: angel

here's a drawing of the angel out of the x-men - created by jack kirby & stan lee in x-men #1, 1963 ( - he looked quite different in the x-men 3 movie i know )

( click once or twice to make it bigger )

not a particularly imaginative or exciting drawing ( there must be at least ten thousand more interesting ways to draw a boy with wings ) but another opportunity for me to arse about in fotoshop at least

real name: warren kenneth worthington the third

w.o.agwu "fun" fact: despite just being a bloke with wings the angel somehow once beat up "the invincible" iron man - here's a nice jack kirby drawing of it

as a kiddie i remember being q.fascinated by the harness thingy that j.kirby designed for the angel - a sort of girdle that scrunched up his wings so he could wear civvie clothes & pass for a "normal" human - there's a great scene in x-men #1 where he expresses relief at being able to take it off - o, the simple pleasures

in the 60s & 70s he was a handsome rich spoiled brat with wings but in the grim and gritty gomics of the 1980s the angel had his wings cut off & replaced with razor sharp metal ones and become one of the four horsemen of apocalypse

eventually he got better - i assume his wings grew back - & the last time i saw him in a gomic ( a gouple of years ago at least ) he could cure sickness with a drop of his blood - so presumably he was gonna be some kind of a messiah figure - i dunno if they ever followed up on this tho - or even if he's still a mutant after the scarlet witch's cull in house of m

* foundations = not a bad song - i do find k.nash's voice q.annoying, tho

thor, x-men, iron man, jack kirby, house of m, stan lee, marvel handbook, angel, kate nash, marvel comics
