" - i ain't saying - you ain't pretty - all I'm saying is - i'm not ready "

ITEM! i had a little bit of a holiday from the internets but now i'm slowly easing my way back into world of livejournal - i've also had a break from world of big brother - perhaps the ppl who said horrid charley was the most interesting thing abt it were right after all

( putting the new ppl in so late was a big mistake - i mean who cares abt amy or kara louise? ) ( - at least jonty = "a character", i suppose )

i plan to start watching bb again when there's abt two weeks to go - can anyone tell me when it's actually due to finish? - also if there've been any exciting developments at all since chanelle left

ITEM! i finally got round to watching all the way through incense for the damned - an early 1970s horror based on simon raven's novel doctors wear scarlet

( it had another title in the US which rather gives away the "shock" ending so i won't mention it in case any other foolhardy souls want to sit through it )

the director robert hartford davies had his name taken off - and it seems to be unfinished with somewhat stilted narration filling in the gaps - i gev up the first time of viewing as i fell asleep abt half way thru during a v.long, v.slow "chase" scene of two ppl on donkeys going up a hill

it's another film like the devil rides out where patrick mower is in a trance/coma for most of it ( - it's nowhere near as goob as the devil rides unfortunately - nor do the powers of goob triumph over evil in this 'un, alas )

poor imogen hassall had the unenviable task of playing raven's hypnotic, gontrolling, s&m dominatrix vamp chriseis but she's just not up to the job, bless her ( for hassall's best film performance plse see her as jenny bunn in carry on loving )

it's not a million miles away from the story in raven's novel but somehow they've taken away all the suspense, horror/occult atmos feeling for the characters - acting mostly wooden - david "gockleshell heroes" lodge as a top greek military man has to be seen to be believed

there's an orgy scene right at the beginning that i think has been spliced in at a later date - feat. francoise pascal of mind your language "fame"

towards the end there's a brief gameo from edward woodward & he's actually really goob, talking abt human perversions ( straight out of the novel, i think ) in what might be the pitt rivers museum - peter cushing adds an air of respectability but has v.little to do - patrick macnee at least has a go on one of the donkeys

there are some pretty vistas of greece & greek islands but i think the scenes in oxford are shot by someone else, pretty glumsily ( i'm straining now as my lack of knowlegde about film making/directing is showing )

i bet somewhere there are some essays by raven abt his experiences turning his goob book into this rubbish film ( most probly in late 60s early 70s back numbers of the spectator ) - his reminiscences of scripting james bond & edward & mrs simpson are very worthwhile - if anyone can point me in the right direction i'd be v.grateful
