Merci, mes amis!

My thanks go first  to all the right-thinking voters of my beautiful and long-suffering country who had the courage to take a bold step into the future by electing me President of the Republic last Sunday.  I know I can count on you again to give the UMP a solid majority next month in the legislative elections, after which I can begin the work of ( Read more... )

I look forward to a long and productive working relationship with you and your government, and I'm confident that there will be good cooperation between our two countries. Just be careful not to overstep yourself and meddle in time-tested institutions like the ECB simply because they don't follow the model you think most beneficial to France.

*sigh* In some ways I might actually miss M. Villepin, especially now that Tony Blair has announced his own imminent departure. (*lips twitch* I heard someone say that Mr. Brown has the personality of a plant, which may be accurate even if not very nice.) Dominique could always be counted on to be amusing in company, whatever his delusions concerning me. Our American colleague, on the other hand, is just vulgar, and I really didn't need to be reminded of that shoulder rub. It's burned into my memory.

I hope you enjoy chatting about endogenous growth, and the effect France has on Germany, with Nicolas as much as you did with me, ma chere Angie.

Might you be in Germany as a private citizen next month during the G8? I still have your birthday champagne chilling, and I'd be delighted to have you over to drink it. I know my husband would be delighted to have you under our roof just this once to bid you farewell.

Even in this difficult time, I am not safe from your neverending strategies and ploys to get me into bed! Have you no shame, Madame?!

*drily* I think you're confusing me with Madame Royal and her not-husband. Joachim and I are perfectly contented with each other. Our bedroom is offlimits to visitors.

I'm sure we'll find a lot to talk about. The EU constitution, for one thing. Maybe President Sarkozy and his PM will have more success in explaining its importance than you and Jacques did.

Now, Angela, you know as well as I do that the when our voters said "Non!" to the treaty, it was really a protest vote against Jacques and Dominique. We'll have a much easier time of it with me in the Elysée, particularly since I don't see any need to waste money on another referendum. We'll simply have the Assembly pass it.

Now, Nicolas, you know as well as I do that our voters were saying "Non!" to Raffarin! The treaty was also doomed by your somewhat suspiciously inadequate campaigning.

*innocent look* But, Dominique, you know as well as I do that in France each person is free to vote his or her own conscience. I could hardly force them to vote for the treaty. We don't live in a police state, you know, no matter what Ségolène and her cronies are saying now.

Yes, but it was what is lying in the background of that motivational message there that I was alluding to.

You mean the bracing on the shutters? It's purely a coincidence that they seem to form the letter "N".

*tight smile* And the coincidence of what the mirror behind you forms?

You're letting your imagination run away with you. Clearly it's a "U" and not an "O". Besides, I'm sure anyone who even bothers to look at the mirror is doing so to try to catch a glimpse of my reflection in the glass.

It is an "O". And why would anyone bother trying to see your reflection; everyone knows it is pointless.

*patiently* It's a "U" that's standing on its hands. Obviously. And the existence of vampires has never been conclusively proved. Just like those mysterious offshore bank accounts belonging to Jacques.

Surely your obsession with my neck is evidence enough.
