Living in Canada!?!

Recently I've considered moving to Canada with a couple of friends for a year or so, however I've got a few concerns about my situation and whether I would be able to sustain myself during that period.  Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I seriously think a lot of people here are making it sound like its way harder to live in Canada then it actually is. I have lived in Toronto all my life, born and raised, starting Uni next fall, I am 25 and have had customer service jobs my whole life, and yes it can be challanging, but not impossible.

First of all, your from the UK, so you should definitely save up some money before you come here, because your pound will go a long way against our Canadian dollar. If you can save up enough incase you get in an emergency, you will be fine.

I can tell you all about the neighbourhoods in Toronto, where affordable housing is, and living with a bunch of people in a house does not suck. In fact, its better than living in an apartment. More freedom from annoying neighbours. Obviously try to find people you mesh well with to live with. But honestly if you are staying here for one year, wouldn't you rather have the cheapest rent possible?

You could get a customer service job at somewhere like Starbucks (where I work), restuarants, retail etc. Yes there is a recession, but there is stuff available if you look.

In terms of travel, you can take the bus if you wanna visit the USA or train around Canada.

In terms of weed, its pretty easy to find, and its still illegal, but I think most cops don't really care. I mean don't flaunt it in their faces, but I've seen people walking around Toronto smoking weed.
