Katniss watches as the daylight streams in through their bedroom window and Peeta's shallow breathing causes the dust motes in the air to swirl and dance around his pale eyelashes. The way the sun falls, stringy and separate, through the blinds in their window reminds Katniss of a time when she watched the same sun climb through vines to caress Peeta's face and the same breath cause the same dust motes waltz to around Peeta's same fluttering eyelids.

That time, Katniss had been fighting to save Peeta's life.

This time, asleep and peaceful, Peeta is continuing to save Katniss.
