Technowoes or ::Head:Desk::Head:Desk::

I'm saying, right up front, it could be worse. I met the day's and the week's deadlines. But the creative time I had today vanished almost completely (I did get about 2 paragraphs done on the animal noir) when--

I went to open a Word document on my desktop and it didn't open and it didn't open and it didn't open. Control-Alt-Delete didn't even display Word, so that wasn't an option. After a few fruitless tries at other things I've since forgotten, I went to the last resort and pulled the plug. Literally. Figuring it would shut down and I'd restart it. I've had to do this half a dozen times before and it has worked every time.

Not this time.

The on-off switch simply blinked. That's right. It blinked. Even when the computer was disconnected.

So tomorrow the desktop visits the local (18 miles away--this is rural New England after all) fix-it man.

I am soooo glad that some bright angel prompted me to transfer the animal noir to my thumb drive right before I tried to shut it down to "fix" the problem. I haven't dared look to see if my multi-voiced w-i-p is there or not.

O man o man o man o man.

wip, technology
