Taught My First Class

Jan 15, 2008 20:46

That's right. 10:55 an empty room. 11:00 one student. Slowly they trickle in until half a dozen of the nine on the roster are seated around the table. They give me the skinny on why I got the call last week. I hand out the course expectations and a first project to copy edit. They work in 2 groups, then report out.

I am so impressed. These students have a great feel for the language. If they're going to make good copyeditors, they need to learn the rules, and they need to learn the difference between different kinds of editing--line edits, substantive editing, etc. But they definitely have the ability. I'm looking forward to a great semester.

The only down side. Less time for my own work. But if these guys keep my energy level up, I may manage to carve that out as well. I thrive on  positive vibes.
