july 4th adventure

Welllllllll that SUCKED.
Yesterday I went to the free 4th of July Goo Goo Dolls outdoor concert in Buffalo with Holly and her friends Liz, Laura, Don, and Karissa. We got there at about 5:30, and there was a local band on, and it started to rain, so we went into a building to wait it out, which was okay because we really just wanted to see the Goo Goo Dolls. So then when it stopped raining we went to the stage area and Ani Difranco went on, and it rained during her set. Ok it poured. And by poured, I mean FUCKING POURED. We didn't have jackets, I was freezing because I just had a thin tank top and like hiphugging pants that my shirt didn't cover so the water went down my pants too which kinda sucked, and one umbrella for the 6 of us which didn't really work, but even though we were all DRENCHED we didn't want to leave because we wanted to see if maybe the rain would stop so we could see the Goo Goo Dolls. So we stood in this downpour for like half an hour, then Ani was like "they're telling us we should stop for 10 minutes", at which point alot of people left. We left also and walked to the subway station, because we figured that they'd probably cancel it and have it tonight, because tonight was the raindate. Well we got to the subway station and couldn't get on the train because it was packed because alot of people left, and it was good that we missed it because shortly after it left it stopped raining. So we went back and Ani was on for a little while longer, then the Goos were going to be next. IT TOOK LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF FOR THEM TO SET UP. I don't know why it took that long. At the concert in 2002 it only took 40 minutes. So then they went on at quarter to 10 and and it was great, Johnny was like "I love when shit works", cause it was warm and not raining and there were a ton of people there, but then like 6 or 7 songs into it it started to rain again, and at first it was gentle and we were like eh whatever we're wet already, but then it was like a fucking downpour. Which is worse than fucking pouring. Like it was impossible to even look at the stage (we were really close too) without having to look back down at the ground again cause you'd just get pelted with rain. It was really violent and then there was alot of lightning so people started to leave again, and we left, and it was still pouring/flashing with lightning when the train came, so we left. Then when we got back to UB it had stopped. So I was kinda hoping that maybe they had stopped the concert while it was coming down so horribly, but it must've only lasted like half an hour because it was fine when we got back. So then I read online that they finished it. Someone was like "I can't believe they played in that rain" and the news site said that it was near-record rain. But haha we stayed for alot of it so I guess we can say that we're semi-cool?
They filmed this for a DVD to be released around Thanksgiving so I guess I'll see the rest when it comes out. But its still not the same as actually being there. We left during "here is gone"; I wonder how many more songs were after that. But I'm happy that I at least got to see them for a little while, and that they played an old song (something from Superstar Car Wash; I don't rememeber right now what song it was), and that I was reasonably close to the stage (there were ALOT of people there), and at least I didn't have to pay to see it. And they're recording a new album in the fall so that means that there will be another tour. Hopefully inside. Haha.
I wonder if they did the firework show at the end. City Hall was all lit up, it looked really nice. And I missed the fireworks here because I obviously wasn't here; they had them at like 10, so it was still ok. I like the 4th of July because everyone's out and the air is all smoky. Stupid stupid stupid rain. Rain is fun most of the time, like being out in a light rain is cool, but this was horrible.
I'm just rambling on now. There were good things but overall I'm really disappointed cause I had been looking forward to this for awhile and they used to be my favorite band and I still like them alot, and if it had been a nice day it would've been amazing. And I know that I should be grateful for the good things about it and that I even got to go at all but that doesn't mean I can't still be disappointed in how things turned out.
And someone threw a sign up on stage that said "polish boys kick ass". I enjoyed that. And the group of drunk people singing patriotic songs was cool as well. I'm hungry.
