DR SNAPE REVEALS THE SECRETS OF MUGGLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Panthenol

Panthenol (or, more properly, dexpanthenol) is the alcohol of pantothenic acid or B5 vitamin. In other words, it is the provitamin of B5. It is also one of the greatest hoaxes in the beauty industry.

Skincare companies usually advertise creams which contain panthenol saying that it will make your body produce more B5 vitamin and thus enhance your looks from the inside. The truth is, panthenol is not absorbed into the skin, it remains OUTSIDE the body, so it cannot make your body do anything. Instead, it does make the skin smoother and more moisturised. It seals the surface of the skin very effectively, and prevents water from escaping.

Panthenol is also used in shampoos. It binds to hair and makes it shinier (due to the sealing effect mentioned above).

Dr Snape thinks this ingredient deserves an A (Acceptable)
It would actually deserve an E, but I believe the misleading of customers is a vile practice that should be punished by Unforgiveables.
