My bike is full of love
Originally uploaded by Word Freak. I biked to work yesterday and found my seat stolen when I got to my bike at 4PM. Why would someone want to steal my bicycle seat?

I wasn't so naïve as to leave a quick-release seat unlocked; I had it bolted down when I got my bike. So the thief would've had to be carrying around an Allen key of the right size.

How much can you get for a used bike seat anyway? Fifteen bucks maximum? Probably some crack-head looking for a quick fix, I dunno.

So I had to pedal mostly uphill all the way home (about a 15-minute ride) standing on my pedals, straining my knees. Bigtime bummer.

I stopped by La Carrera bike shop on Harbord around the corner from my place and they offered sympathy. And a quick replacement of the post and an old used seat replacement until I got a new seat.

I'm out just $17.50 for this, but still have to get a new seat as my boney bum isn't used to the stopgap measure taken so far. I'll probably be able to get my old seat back from my previous bike that I gave to my dad. But still, a major inconvenience.

I had a word with the security desk at the building where I work and parked just outside. They said their security cameras don't reach that far. But offered for me to park my bike from now on in the underground parking lot which is watched by security, so there's much less risk.

That's little consolation. And I'm still pissed off. :-(
