I support caning.

When I was at Target, shortly before Christmas, I noticed something I'd never seen before -- branded, fruit-flavored candy canes. Spree candy canes, Sweet-Tart candy canes, Jolly Rancher candy canes...just about any brand that makes hard candy seemed make to candy canes. Evidently, these have been around for a couple of years, but I never noticed them before. I don't particularly like peppermint, so I'd never had candy canes on my tree, but these looked interesting, and cheap, so I thought I'd give them a shot. They worked quite well as decorations...easy to hang, and colorful; they looked good on the tree.

I didn't get to try one until we took the tree down yesterday, and the Spree ones were really quite good. I'm a long-time Spree fan, as I've mentioned before, so I was curious to see what they tasted like, since by appearance, they have all the colors in there. Wow, they're good, although they're not exactly Spree. I couldn't identify an individual fruit flavor, just the "sugar" taste that all Spree taste like after 10 seconds, and the core of the thing was really tart, tart enough to make my eyes water at one point. The box said it was a "flavor kick," and while I'm usually skeptical of claims of violence on candy wrappers, I'd say that was an accurate assessment.

So I fully endorse the fruit-flavored candy cane idea, and I'll look for more of these next year.
