Ye Olde Cinnamon Buns

Back when I was at Penn State, The Diner (known as Ye Olde College Diner when I was there) was pretty much the default place for students to eat, outside of the campus dining halls. I patronized the place regularly, as good Penn Staters should, mostly for the cheeseburgers, milkshakes, and cheese fries (mmm, cheese fries)...and the ensuing gastrointestinal distress. But for a lot of people the Diner was all about the grilled stickies. They're mostly cinnamon pastries done up stick-style, but that doesn't do them justice. They're great for breakfast, or served warm with ice cream for dessert, and I understand that when one has been indulging at the various local bars, hitting the Diner for stickies (open 24 hours!) provides enough starch to enable one to get home safely.

I've never gotten overly nostalgic about the Diner (it's never come up in a Pointless College Story), or grilled stickies, but I've evidently mentioned them enough that elora_c recognized them when she saw a box of them in the local Giant supermarket. Yes, that's right, PSU alumni -- if you live in Pennsylvania, you can get grilled stickies at your supermarket. If you live further afield, you can mail-order them from the web site. Of course, Elora bought them on a whim, and I wish I could say that they taste every bit as good as I remembered...but the fact is that I let them sit around for about a week before eating them, so they got rather stale. Elora grilled 'em, and I ate 'em anyway, and they were about as good as I expected stale grilled stickies to be, and in the realm of stale food, that's really not too bad. So consider this more of a public service announcement than a food review
