Every once in a while I find myself in the most unique situations.
I once built a parade float. It was Pawling, NY's Centennial and we (Foundation for Christian Living) were making the cake. I don't know how they all work but this one came in a kit and still involved carpentry and lots of staples. Someone also had to volunteer a truck to hold it up. IT was blue and white. I don't think I have photos of that one. (I was working on a pet pilot project for Norman Vincent Peale - POPS power of positive students.)
When I lived in Los Angeles if I had stayed another year I could have worked on the floats for the Rose Bowl Parade. I think that would have been a lot of fun. I did see the Doo Daa Parade in Pasadena when I lived there, including the Briefcase Brigade and the Living Portrait Gallery.
The only parade I recall having been in was the Queen Mother's 100th in England. She looked good too. I had a couple of photos on the hard drive so here you go.
I am not in this one. This is just to show the scope of Horse Guards Parade and give an idea of the number of participants.
I am just over the railing on the parade ground in green. See how the groups marching spread out again. There was a lot of that. The rehearsal went fine but at the real thing they added in the celebrities and then you have interviews and it became a big bunch then a big gap and then a bunch again. Oh well, none of us were professional parade marchers. We were mostly charity workers.
Ok here I am not far from the guard in the green. Notice the London Eye in the background. The Queen Mother and Charles were only a couple of feet from the railing on the audience side. I never thought I would be so close to the Royals, yet so far - no introduction. Oh well!! :-) Well, I might hand out flags and Soldier's Angels information at some parades in the future, but for now I have no marching orders.
That was fun. I haven't seen these photos for a while. If I find the ones of the Doo Daa Parade I will post them too. That was a long time ago now. I am not sure they still have it. It was in Pasadena though.
Um, I know it says fist for a Queen but I can't seem to get at it to correct it. Sorry about that.
