Things will grow, when left to their own devices.
We've had a tomato on the kitchen window sill for a week or more. Had no lettuce for salad, so there sat the tomato. Today I whacked it open (lettuce having been acquired) and the tomato was full of sprouts. So I took it out and gave it a decent burial in a pot full of very nice black soil which I'm sure was originally shovelled out of what used to be the garden behind the garage.
So maybe later this year - if I can remember to keep it watered, and if the raccoon doesn't dig it up tonight - I'll have some decent slicing tomatoes.
