Disclaimer: All characters are not mine. The idea is a figment of my imagination and no harm is intended through the writing of this.
A/N: The original request was no graphic sex, written from the perspective of a third person observer on the relationship. Hopefully this does so. Beta'd by the lovely yodels and ficlette. As always, I'd love to hear what you think. Concrit welcomed with open arms.

Ginny had made a terrible mistake. She realized it when she saw the soft ghosting of a hand down a forearm until it gently squeezed the hand at the end.

She'd acted rashly when she'd broken up with Dean Thomas in Fifth Year for the opportunity to date Harry Potter. At the time, it made sense to her. She'd wanted Harry for years, ever since before that first meeting with her "squeak and run" and that had been mortifying enough.

When he'd finally shown interest, she'd been quite happy with Dean. She knew that now and it proved that hindsight truly was 20/20. Dean had treated her like a lady; he'd never pushed further than she'd wanted to go. Their first kiss hadn't been initiated by Dean, after all.

But given the choice of Dean or Harry, Ginny had leapt at the chance for Harry and hadn't looked back until Harry was off hunting Horcruxes while she was stuck back at Hogwarts, watching Dean and Seamus share furtive glances and soft touches.

Ginny yearned for those touches and glances. She could, if she concentrated hard enough, taste Dean on her tongue. She could feel him on her lips. The weight of his hand in her hair, the soft words mumbled against her lips, all of it, she still remembered.

The memories burned her, mocked her as she sat in the Common Room across from Dean pressed shoulder-to-toe with Seamus on the sofa. Quick fingertips walked across thighs and laughter rang out between them. Occasionally, they would look at one another and just stare and Ginny knew that Dean was thinking about the press of Seamus's lips because that's what he'd thought when they were together.

Their obvious happiness grated as they whispered to one another during meals in the Great Hall. The rough-housing, the little shoves and excuses to touch whenever she saw them in the hallway, it all reminded Ginny of what she had so callously thrown away.

When Ginny had approached Dean about their relationship at the beginning of the year, Dean had been graceful and respectful but had turned her down with a smile and an "it's ok, Gin". He'd been polite, she had to give him credit for that, but he hadn't told her that he'd already chosen someone else, hadn't told her that he'd chosen his best friend. They hadn't told anyone about it that she could see, but she knew because she'd been on the other end of those glances and touches and flirtations.

As her jealousy festered, Ginny started to think about how she didn't deserve this treatment. Really, she'd be doing them a favour if she announced their relationship to the school. She wasn't betraying a confidence, after all, because no one had told her about it.

It was a simple thing, really. Just a comment to Luna, accidentally-on-purpose in front of Parvati and Lavender, and the entire school knew. The fallout was immediate. The glances and touches stopped. The laughter slowed until it disappeared. The sharp words began. It was gratifying, and jealousy turned back to hope.

Hope continued as Dean sat on the side of the Common Room closest to Ginny and Seamus continued to sit on the sofa. Hope burgeoned and bloomed as Dean and Seamus sat on opposite ends of the table in the Great Hall. Hope lit up her smile as Dean and Seamus stopped walking to class together.

As Ginny slowly started to flirt with Dean once more, Seamus would glare at them while Dean glared back at Seamus. When Dean helped her pick up the books, accidentally-on-purpose dropped as Dean passed by, Seamus sneered and muttered under his breath. Ginny began walking to breakfast with Dean by arriving just as he was leaving. It would be rude to not invite her along and she knew he was a gentleman, he wouldn't be rude.

Perhaps she had moved too quickly, she realized that now. Perhaps she should have allowed Dean and Seamus some more hurtful words and hateful glances before she walked, hand-in-hand with Dean. She knew, now, that Dean wasn't trying to pull his hand away to sling an arm around her shoulder as he used to. He was trying to pull away because Seamus was behind them.

The vitriolic words burned her even though they were directed towards Dean. When Dean turned around and spat back, "I'm giving you what you want", Ginny realized where she'd erred. All too soon, she felt like an interloper as biting tones turned to pleading. "I love you" and "Why did we stop" had her insides churning.

When Dean's hand pulled Seamus closer, when his arm slipped around Seamus's shoulder, when their lips touched, Ginny realized the complete depth and breadth of her mistake.

Ginny was going to be alone and it was all her fault.
