Below is my "Dear Yuletide Author" letter. No need to click the cut unless you were writing for me or would like to know what I like.
Dear Yuletide Author:
Hello! First, I'm really excited for this. This is my first year participating and I'm not at all sure what to request or not.
To make it easier, I'm going to break down the various fandoms:
1.) Boondock Saints
I'm in love with Boondock Saints. I love the snark and the religion and the way the brothers are always touching. I love that they have such a symbiotic relationship. Please keep these things.
I would love a story detailing the way the brothers reconcile themselves with the incest (I do want incest, btw). I would love well-written (and well-researched) Confession. When I say well-written and well-researched, I'm asking for it to be authentically Catholic, not what a non-Catholic thinks it's like. And, if you have them praying the "Our Father", please, make sure that the prayer is the Catholic version.
Now, this is sounding like I'm a picky bitch but I swear, I'm not that bad. If the religion thing scares you, however, language is a fantastic direction. The only thing I love more than speaking a foreign language is imagining hot boys speaking a foreign language. Didn't you just love that section of the movie where they're in with Smecker and they're using all these languages? GAH, love and adore it. Confessions of love in other languages make me melt.
Il Duce and Rocco freak me out. Please don't include them if at all possible.
2.) The Departed
Boy howdy do I love the rough and hard relationship between Costigan and Dignam. I love how they're always fighting and snarking and pushing at each other. They're never going to be BFFs and I love that about them. I would love to see that animosity turn sexual because, IMHO, there's plenty of tension there already *winks*. I would love love LOVE to see the story be completely canon compliant so do not be afraid of killing off Costigan. The whole angst aspect is one of the reasons I love this pairing, after all. They're doomed from the beginning and that makes it fun (for me, at least). There is no such thing as overusage of "fuck" when it comes to Dignam, either.
You don't have to include the sex. I'm good with lots of UST and snark, pushing and shoving and oh man, this is a fantastic fandom.
3.) The Black Donnellys
I love Tommy/Jimmy but don't tell some of the people on my flist as they're all Tommy/Kevin people. I love Tommy/Jimmy because of similar reasons to the Dignam/Costigan. There's a lot of animosity and rivalry and I'd love to see that brought out.
If you want to go sweeter (but no schmoop, oh god, no schmoop anywhere!), Tommy/Kevin is good to go, as well. I've actually never read Jimmy/Kevin but if that's tempting you, go for it!
4.) Four Brothers
Bobby/Jack makes me melt. Again with the angst and the death and all that but the pain is so beautiful to read. I love that Bobby sort of softens for Jack but, just, one thing - I find that in stories written in this fandom, there is an overusage of cutesy nicknames like "dear, honey" that sort of thing. I don't mind the canon teasing but don't over do it, yeah?
For all fandoms - I'm big on the angst, obviously. Some relationships are doomed from the beginning and that's the attraction for me. You don't have to worry about making any of the relationships too angsty. You want to be canon compliant and kill off a character, go for it.
Going along with this, I'm not a fan of schmoop. Actually, let me be blunt - I hate it. I hate cutesy nicknames and boys acting like chicks with dicks. I hate when a rough masculine aggressive character is emasculated just to bring a pair together. Canon characterizations are where it's at. There's a reason I love these characters. I don't want to change them, I love them as they are, warts and all.
I have what I call the traditional squicks. I'm not fond of bloodplay, scat, necro, watersports - that sort of thing. To this, I'd like to add - gunplay, knifeplay, rape, non-con, schmoop, OOC, AU (ie, Costigan's alive).
I hope this helps and doesn't make you want to drop my requests like a hot potato. I already appreciate that you've taken the time to read this letter.
Should you have any sorts of questions, don't hesitate to go through the
yuletide mods and ask me. I'm very excited for whatever you decide to write!
