Watching the chain bridge’s lights slowly fade in the distance
As I drive away from existence
Loosing my focus … the car starts to drift
But what can I do?
-this happens when I sift
Through my memories like this:
Last summer
and living on Purchase Street.
Walking out on the beach with you, sand
under our feet and
our toes
as we kissed under the stars. Yet, nobody
knows
how it went and how it
goes.
And how real can this memory
be
when nobody feels it
but me?
I see
and remember the past
as I’m driving across this bridge so fast.
(but even this won’t last)
My eyes are clenched tight holding on to the sights
and smells of that summer.
Suddenly (in fright) I G A S P
and clenchthewheel,
swerving back to existence.
Watching the river fade in the distance
Tonight and tonight and tonight….
