This Sony 25" XBR monitor cost me more than a month-&-a-half's pay at the PX in Stuttgart, Germany, when i'd bought it back in 1985 as a young buck sergeant. Stereo TVs and VCRs were bleeding edge back then. i even got a stereo Betamax to go with it! It still looks and sounds great! The detachable speakers were quite innovative, too, and i ran them through a Bose subwoofer. It's been back and forth to Europe twice and all over the country. But for the past few years, it's languished in a closet sheltering a family of dustbunnies. It was time for it and another TV to go to the Goodwill. Strange how things like this will hold such memories and how hard it is to let them good. Goodbye old friend.
#photoadayaug - 11 - my favorite chocolate has always been Milka in the familiar #purple wrapper - "Beste Qualität"! Saturday was such a lovely day, i spent some time out in the backyard with the kids. A wonderful way to waste some time.

Saturday night, i went out for the used leather sale. While i was going through the "Closet Of Doom" looking for this outfit, i came across this old fez that was part of a Fasching party costume back in Germany about 15 years ago. i put it on my head just to get it out of the way and so it wouldn't get crushed. When i found the neoprene, i noticed that the fez matched and put it on to show Matt. He said that i should keep it! It really matched and would make folks wonder what was up. Evil! i loved that idea! He was gaming with
fuzzywuzzycub and
shadowolf1970 and we sent them a pic via phone and they agreed. And they were right...everybody was wondering what was up and i was the only one crazy enough to pull it off. One trannybear commented that i just needed some little cymbals to bang together. Touche!!
Sunday was the Olympics Closing Ceremonies. A great show and i liked the history of Brit Pop including Madness doing "Our House" and the Pet Shop Boys doing "West End Girls". But the part i can't shake out of my head is the Royal Household Marching Band covering Blur's "Parklife". It's been on a loop in my head all week long.
On Sunday we went out to dig through stuff that had been at my folks' house since i'd left to join the Army "for just a few years". i hadn't seen some of this stuff in 30 years. i found this trophy from when i won 3rd place in the 1972 Optimist Club Speech Contest in High Ridge, MO. There were three contestants.
