Not The Food We Expected

Last weekend, braddumm sent me an email to give me a heads up about a cool restaurant that he saw on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on Food Network that might be in our neighborhood. We finally got to watch the episode this evening while we were doing our project and decided, what the hell, let's go over there. i mean, it looked like it was like a gourmet restaurant crossed with a biker hangout. The chef/owner even uses a Sawsall to cut up the meat. How could we resist? Iron Barley was over near Bates and Virginia (right where you get off the freeway, directorbear) and even without an address, Matt got us there just from recognizing some landmarks on the show. As we walked up, we saw signs on the side of the building advertizing specials from MON-THU and FRI & SAT. But no Sunday. Still, there were people out front smoking cigarettes and the place was packed. We walked in the front door and they were like "hey, how you doing??" As it turned out, they are indeed closed on Sunday. This was their annual xmas party for their staff and regular customers. Still, the owner insisted that we come in and get a plate and try some food. It wasn't food off their menu, but rather a grab bag of party food. Still, we hung out for a bit and talked to some of the folks. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. But i still felt uncomfortable crashing their party, so we ate some and chatted up Skip, a woofy regular. We'll be taking the boys there, i think. We'll definitely be back.
