It's February 1st, and as part of my newborn motivation to get my life on track I submitted my samples to the greeting card company, went to the library and checked out a book on writing for greeting cards and two other books on writing. One is on writing proper procedures for like police work and investigating, look forward to reading that because it's been a roadblock with some of my stories in the past. Because I didn't know how such stuff is really done, hopefully now all my questions will be answered.
And with this new month, I'm going to have a little rant and hope that nobody objects. I used to write a monthly opinion column for a newsletter and I'd like to try and get back in that habit a little. This might be a good place for it.
This is not only February, when we have Valentines Day and the Super Bowl, but is probably best known as Black History Month. And while I don't consider myself a racist, I kind of object to the celebration. I echo the dream of Martin Luther King for us to live in a world of equality where we aren't separated by the color of our skin but exist only as one race. I feel great strides have been made for equality, and while there is still progress to be made, its the African Americans themselves who hold it back.
It's such things as Black History month which causes separation and prejudice, not equality. Where is our White History month? There are many things that separate the races which I feel causes the disparity. Yes, slavery was horrific and the way blacks were treated in the past was terrible, but times have changed. It's a new millenium. They don't need their own television channel, NAACP, private colleges, and own month the celebrate their history. If its equality they want, then lets be equal.
