From a recent New York Times article on Patti LuPone:
"Among the [Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra]'s strange, outmoded, 'original' instruments -- the feral horns, sour violins, wooden flutes, cellos without endpins -- [LuPone] seemed right at home, despite her Broadway provenance. She too is a strange, outmoded, original instrument..."
Grrrrrrr. Raaarrr. Feral?!? I'll give you feral, you snotty narrow-minded modernist music critic! You think Baroque instruments are strange?!? Hah. You're a marked man, Jesse Green*. Next time I see you, you get live amateur shawm music right in your ear.
*note: I don't believe this writer is the jazz musician Jesse Green, but I could be wrong.
