People are frustrating!
It's not that you cancelled that bothers me.
It's the fact that I expected you to cancel, but still had room for that foolish hope that maybe you would actually be true to your word. After all, you're generally a good person. Why shouldn't I retain SOME faith in you. And then that faith was crushed by my own feelings of stupidity when you did exactly what I expected of you.
It's not the amount of time you've spent together, years you've known each other or similarities between you that make you a good friend. It's RELIABILITY.
Knowing that the person will be there for you makes them a friend. Knowing you can count on that person makes them a friend. Knowing that person will TRY for you makes them a friend.
Bleh! Frustration.
