A fair of careers

Mar 01, 2011 20:18

So QU North Haven had their Health Sciences career fair. I knew the employers they had invited - they sent out a list of the employers coming, along with which majors they're specifically looking for. Sadly, there's only one place looking for an MR tech.

On my way towards the area where they're having the fair, I run into one of the other MR students - a continuing education student who's also a Nuke Med tech. No one would take his resume and every one he asked about their MRI jobs, they told him to look online. So, with that in mind, I walk in, and I find Brandford MRI (which was empty when the other student went to check) and I made a total blunder of my introduction, which went something like this...

"HimynameisStephanie.I'manMRIstudent."

Yeah....I've got to somehow control that urge to speak without spacing and blanking out....

However, once I mentioned I was an MRI student at QU, a senior, willing to basically work anywhere in CT (a minor lie...) they were interested. They asked me where I did my clinical and I answered Midstate. They were happy to hear that I worked at Midstate because the radiologist that works at Brandford works at Midstate! :D And after that, they were immediately interested in seeing my resume, and I mentioned how I was also awarded the Toshiba Scholarship Award, which piqued their interests again! Then they started mentioning how Bill (the head of the DI department) had come by earlier to tell them about me, and how I was a "bright star" (so I guess technically, the group was already partially biased towards me). And they took my resume, and the guy drew a smile face up in the corner, so he would know that I was an exceptional candidate for the position and then he gave me his card, and then the other guy was like, wait, give her the other email, the good email (what, you guys have special emails? WTF).

Regardless, I can say I went bright red with embarrassment and nervousness, and I was very ecstatic and glad that I went to the career fair, even if I really only stopped at one booth. But it was THE booth to stop at :D For me anyway.

What a crazy 7 days it's been. Not only that, but the two tests I had on Thursday - the one where I didn't study too much = 100 and the one I studied a fair amount for = 94 :D
