On with the show

Kenneth Branagh's film of Love's Labour's Lost is really, really good. I've said it before, but I've just watched it on DVD, which reminded me. Incredibly sad, but incredibly uplifting at the same time. And I wish I could get hold of the version of 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' that they sing at the end - it's probably one of the most moving songs ever (in that arrangement at least).

Speaking of musicals, I've found a lady's choir who will probably be able to be in Llywelyn, and I'm meeting the head of music at a local school tomorrow. Also, four of the five cast members I had before are also willing to come back. So a bit of a long way to go still, but all on course.

On a different note, Doctor Who was excellent on Saturday. The three-act structure was unusually distinct, but I have no qualms with it. What I particularly liked was the way that a desperately uninteresting premise (he's younger, eh? Really. [*yawn*]) is turned into both a poignant drama about the necessity of human limitation that really got to grips with the implications of the central concept (I was reminded of 'God hath forbade it, but Faustus hath done it') - but also a bloody good creature feature as well, reminiscent of seventies Who. Proper Gothic as well, which is great.

Martha's family were well-used, and the very last scene where she joins the TARDIS tied up the series so far very nicely. Indeed, it almost felt natural for there to be a two-week break at this point.
