It's been two weeks since I last updated! Yikes! In my defense, I feel like hardly anything interesting or memorable happened, with maybe one exception. The week of the 13th was mostly a disappointment, I'm afraid.

On Thursday the 9th (before the Awful Week) I went to scholarship dinner! Basically, like last year, I won a scholarship offered by the History Department for history students interested in the history of Christianity. Also like last year, I didn't apply, which means I must have been nominated aaaw. My donors are a very sweet couple and I had a lot of fun, actually, even though that sort of function would generally be something I considered torturous - que flashbacks to military-related functions I was forced to attend as a child. I felt, for some reason, especially charming and charismatic that night. It might be because I was feeling pretty tops for totally nailing the Latin quiz earlier in the day and in general having things go my way...

The week got awful on the 14th. I got my Latin quiz from the 9th back and I had a terrible grade! Talk about a punch in the gut. It was so frustrating because I thought I had finally figured this professor out, what he wants when he asks his questions, and that I thoroughly knew this stuff - but in the declension of the phrase nomen patricum for the plural I forgot to change the stem nomen to nomin so he counted it all wrong even though patricum in the plural was mostly right. By "all wrong" I mean all the cases, which would be nominative/genitive/dative/accusative/ablative/vocative. I know if I didn't have all those points counted against me I would have gotten a B... Aah it still makes me mad to write about it again. I know I'm not the only person who got half of that wrong for similar reasons.

I was so angry about the terrible grade that after work that Tuesday I stayed up to do the translation homework (he posts this stuff so late!) so I could take it to a tutoring session on Wednesday. I didn't finish it all so I left it next to my bed and the next morning I finished it as soon as I woke up... Unfortunately I forgot that I needed to wake up right at 8 to sign up for classes. When I did remember to sign up for classes around 9:45 I got all the classes I wanted except for the one that I was frankly anticipating like more normal people might anticipate a sporting event or Harry Potter movie. Enter Crushing Disappointment of the Week 2, this was going to be my senior capstone course with my favorite professor, a class called The History of Emotions. I just know it's going to be amazing, so yes, yes I AM refreshing the class sign up page and entering 25912 (the class code) every 15 minutes or so, even though it's been nearly 2 weeks and no one has dropped it yet.

So this feeling of indirectable anger and defeat hung over the rest of the week...

Until Friday! On the 17th Kami and I met in Fredericksburg for tea at the #1 rated teahouse in Virginia according to teamaps.com - Pinkadilly Tea. I only got a little lost trying to find my way. Naturally we got the full service, and not surprisingly were totally stuffed by the times we made it to the dessert tier of our tray, not that we let that stop us. It was very cozy with good food, good tea (I had a black Hazelnut Vanilla and she had a black Black Forest tea), good atmosphere and good prices, I think. We caught up - well mostly she caught me up on her life since mine is very unhappening by comparison - and after tea we walked a few blocks into historic Fredericksburg to a vintage shop and indulged ourselves. I bought this great linen maxi with hippie-ish embroidering that is frankly in fantastic condition, like it was only worn once. The zipper is so easy to pull, too, which is a nice change from most vintage zippers I grapple with. Kami bought this adorable pink and white Gunne Sax maxi that makes her look like some Medieval princess.

This past week I've been feeling better. I don't even want to get into my car inspection, since that all worked out. Basically, I went for an oil change, had the car inspected as well, it failed and they said I needed a $500 repair, I said no and drove around with a rejected car on Tuesday until after work, then I went to my parents' and had my dad's mechanic look at it, and it passed. I saw Deathly Hallows Part 1 with my sister while I was up there, then I came back down so I could work this morning. So I got into it, oh well, anyway... I need to start working on my papers due in like a week and a half (woops) so I'll probably be awol again. Oooh well!

Since it is Thanksgiving - Happy Thanksgiving, friends list, I hope you guys had a lot of fun! - I will say that despite how frustrating last week was, I am thankful for it, that these are the worst of my problems. I'm thankful for a supportive family and group of friends, and for the life I am able to lead.

And since tomorrow (or today, as when I actually finish coding this and post, it will likely be past midnight) is my birthday, I posted some birthday reflections on my tumblr that I don't really want to repost. The short version: buy better quality clothes (vintage mostly) and just get more serious with some of the things I like and wile away less of my time (exercise more willpower, basically).

I hope the next week or so finds you well!

Oh and before I forget, you should check out Princess Jellyfish if you like funny things.
