So much to write about!! I've been off work for four days now (worked Monday, off the rest of the week) and I have not taken the time to post, shame on me. Well, there is definitely some exciting stuff to report on, so I'm going to start with today and work my way back to when I was sick. First, I nearly jumped out of bed scared shitless this morning from the most vivid dream I've ever had. When I woke up, I grabbed the lappy and started typing exactly what I remembered so I wouldn't forget any details. Anyhow, I'll just post what I wrote this morning, forgive the roughness, I haven't edited it, so its exactly how I wrote it in my groggy state...
I was standing on the quad at NKU smoking with a professor I didn’t know outside of Nunn Hall when I looked at the sky just in time to see a giant space shuttle, smoke gray, pass overhead. I thought I could see sparks coming from its engines, so I quickly excused myself and ran out away from the building, toward the clearing that faces Cincinnati. Just as I came out from the buildings far enough to see it again, the Shuttle had rolled over, now almost completely upside down and obviously much larger than I had thought before (it must have dropped in altitude immensely) and I could see the heat building at the front of it and trailing like a comet in one of those end of the world movies. “NASA” was scrolled huge, now upside down, on it side. Twenty of us or more stood watching, as it dropped from view, and though we never heard the impact, the bubble that rose into the air, like an atom bomb going off in downtown Cincinnati, we all knew we were in trouble. The bubble grew and time slowed to a near halt. I saw the clouds disappear as the bubble reached them, instantly evaporating any moisture in them, and I could see it growing and growing. Then I realized, it would reach us soon. I started to run, as fast as my legs would carry me, back toward Nunn hall. I heard a roar like an aircraft engine powering up for takeoff as I looked back over my shoulder. Time ground to a near stop as I saw clearly the perfect outline of the shockwave creeping toward me. I was still running, or trying to run, but my body had suddenly quit obeying my wishes and with time, I began to move slower and slower. I could see the fire at its base, the dust and dirt and debris, my classmates covering themselves as the heat and energy of the blast knocked them into the air. Time suddenly became real again, and not knowing what else to do, I threw myself flat onto the concrete. The blast came and kicked me up into the air, tossing me twenty or thirty feet across the open quad and I could feel the extreme heat envelope me. Then, as quickly as it started, it was past. A cloud of dust followed in its wake and everyone coughed and screamed and gagged on the brown air. I scrambled to my feet and ran for the door of Founders Hall and just as I opened the door…
Crazy, eh? Well, after having the dream, I’m thinking about trying to turn it into a short story, but as with all my writings, we’ll have to see how that goes.
Next thought…I went to buy an external hard drive for Mel and I. Currently we have a 360 gig HD in the desktop, which is nearly full w/ pics and music and the like, so I went to get a Western Digital 1 Terabyte HD. Best Buy had it advertised for $139.99 which is unheard of, but just to make sure I got the best deal, I started shopping around. Tiger Direct (generally my only source for computer equipment) had them for the same price plus shipping, so I made a few stops today. I stopped by MicroCenter, which had the same one for $299.99! Then I hit up Circuit City, where I found it for $249.99, then on to best buy, where I picked it up for the advertised $139.99 ($149.09 w/ tax!). Needless to say I’m stoked and I can’t wait to get home to try it out! Oh, yeah, I’m at Starbucks, imagine that!
Moving on. I went to the Dock last night for Darkotica (industrial, goth, freak night, every Thursday, if you’re into that you should check it out) w/ Patrick. Anyhow, as I was coming out of the pisser I ran into someone I haven’t even spoken w/ in years: Ben H! I was so pumped. We didn’t get to chat for long, as Sir (Patrick) was about ready to leave, but Ben and I did get to chat a bit and I have to say, I miss hanging out with the kid. God it was good seeing him!
Lastly, a quick recap of my week in the slow lane. As most of you know, I’ve spent the last few years working nearly full time while also being a full time student at school, and with my recent graduation, I’ve decided to slow life down a bit. I worked it out that I have 6 days in a row off and for the last three, I’ve accomplished next to nothing, and I’m not going to lie, its been nice. Tuesday I didn’t even manage to get a shower, I lounged around all day in my gym shorts playing PS2 and learning my new iPod (Mel gave me one of her old ones). I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I think I’m becoming an Apple guy. iTunes is a fricken sweet program!
Wednesday, I did some running around, but for the life of me, I can’t remember what the hell I did??? Oh, yeah, I went to Jungle Jims, did some shopping, bought 3 bottles of champagne, 160 pairs of chopsticks for $2.80, and some munchies for the New Years Eve on the couch. When Mel got home, we did some running and then crashed on the couch to veg, munch, drink some fine champagne and watch the ball drop. Yesterday, I hung out with Sir, as stated previously, and today I’ve spent a lot of money! I have to say, this little vacation has been mighty nice, but I’m not looking forward to it ending on Monday.
Anyhow, hope the day finds you well, the new year brings good times, and as always, have good mosh pitting!
