Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

5 Bones

Quite possibly the best movie ever made, be definitely in the top 3, Fear and Loathing is a cult classic that every true movie fan must see.  Having never dropped acid myself, the movie definitely gives me the experience without all the crazy side effects of things like hallucinations and divorce (if you know my wife, you'll understand).

Johnny Depp plays Hunter S. Thompson to a tee!  I love the quirky-ness of the film and having seen the film both sober and completely baked, I must say, its a trip either way, but if you have the means, baked is the way to see the film.

With lines like "A drug person and take seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her mouth, but no one should have to handle this trip," and "Did they pay you to screw that bear?" how could you not love this flick.  Depp and Del Toro (yeah, the fat Samoan, that's Benicio Del Toro!), pull off the drug induced, spaced out, psychotic parts with the perfection of actual drug users and the fact that Depp lived with HST for 6 months just to learn the man's mannerisms just goes to show how much they put into the film.  Anyone who has seen any of Depp's movies that were made since have seen snippets of this character, as he has carried the part with him every since this role.

My last bit about this movie is that it falls into the category of "Don't do drugs movies which should be shown in every High School across the country."  Fear and Loathing, Blow, Basketball Diaries, Requiem for a Dream and Trainspotting make up the complete list.

You'll laugh, you'll vomit, you'll want to get stoned and you'll swear off drugs all in two hours.  Depp's best flick ever and definitely one of my favorite movies of all time!
