A good friend of mine died this morning from some complications he was having as a result of throat cancer. I feel...strangely aloof to it? I always feel this way when someone I know has died. I guess it's kind of sad I can say that when I'm only 19, but is it really so strange that I would know more than a few people who are no longer around ( Read more... )

Jesus, I'm sorry to hear about that, man. Is there anything I can do?

Not breaking down into rib-cracking sobs while screaming "NOOOOO" at the top of your lungs for fifteen minutes straight doesn't mean you're not feeling enough. Numbness is a pretty normal way of dealing with grief. Maybe tears will come later, maybe they won't, but it's far too early to be worrying about whether you're "mourning enough" or something like that. Grief isn't measured in cups of teardrops.

Anyway, probably the best thing you can do is to keep living your life as he helped you to live it; carrying out and passing on the lessons someone taught you is the best eulogy of all.
