How much will The Witcher annoy me?

So I noticed The Witcher is currently$2.5 on gog+steam and I'm wondering if I should give it a chance. You see, I remember the early reports about the games, the moronic sex conquest card collector part and the suckiness of the female characters in general and ever since then I've been in side eye mode for this game. Then again, it seems to be a popular series and the screenshots are pretty. And it's cheap.

For those who played the game, were you bothered a lot by the problematic aspects?
