So earlier I posted about Mansions and Garden disk for Sims 2 and getting a used copy that was supposed to solve this whole game issue. SPOILER ALERT! It didn't solve jack.
I get on the horn with tech support again. This time I have a tech call me on my phone instead of chatting. She tells me that tech #1 who suggested I get the replacement copy for M&G was, in technical terms, a totally dumbass and I pretty much wasted my money on the used copy that would otherwise work just fine, so I can't even complain about it since it's not the seller's fault.
So tech #2 continues the tradition of excellence by trying to get me to remove SecuRom by using the APPDATA code I'd already tried weeks ago to no avail. The only thing I get with that is a message stating that the path can't be found.
So the tech gave me a free digital download of Apartment Life telling me to play it through Origin that I had to sign up for and download to my PC, which is now a full time hassle with all the "Do you want this program to make changes to your computer" pop-ups I get everytime I load the computer. Clicking either answer does nothing to sate its thirst for my aggravation. My aggravation nourishes it and it needs more and more and more. But did it work? you ask.
In two words: Fuck. No.
So tech essentially gives up and more or less wants to palm me off to another more experienced tech person whom I have to call in the business hours. Yes. I have to call him. Why? Because, fuck you! That's why!
So I get on with higher level tech person, who then tells me to uninstall everything, gives me digital downloads of... some of the games, missing only... oh, THE BEST ONES! Like Seasons, University, Open for Business, Free Time, Pets. So I replied to the email explaining that I have all the Expansions and most stuff packs. Then, about a week later, I get a reply stating he added a few more to the line-up, all that they had available and that I could reinstall the stuff packs from disk and that should level it all out. Except wait... No, still missing some of the best ones like University and Open for Business. So I've sent another email, asking if I could try getting a new key for those games and running them from disk so I wouldn't have to lose out.
That was five days ago and no reply.
So now, I have all these digital downloads, an Origin program that pops up about its permitted use not once, not twice... not three times? No, for EVERY SINGLE GAME ON THE LIST! A $28 paper weight, and nothing has improved the situation.
All because of SecuRom. This program is so vexing that even the tech support for the games that use them can't resolve the issue. So that's it. I'm done. It's looking to me that if I ever want any hope in playing, I may have to use a torrent.
