Went out and did laundry last night while starting to reread John Ringo's When the Devil Dances; followed that by some minimal grocery shopping. Could not get motivated to do anything even vaguely scholastic last night, not even going out to the website where I was supposed to review educational software for the Methods Class. So much the worse for me; I'll do that today along with a revamped authentic assessment and an expansion of the unit plan with three, count them THREE individual daily lesson plans! Can you feel the excitement? Me neither. Still, it has to be done, and that's why they call it work.
Got an e-mail last night from the volunteer coordinator at AI, who doesn't seem to have things under control the way Christina has the last couple of years. I don't know, maybe I'm not being fair, but dropping an e-mail on prospective volunteers the day before the con starts saying (basically) "I'll meet you there and we'll get this all sorted out on-site" doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Whether I'll be able to stick to my intention of not doing any volunteering is a good question, but since tjstriker and I are going to be the only senior staff from AD working on the room party, the chances are I'll have my hands full enough with that. We'll see. All I know is I'm not feeling good about this weekend, and if I hadn't already committed to helping out with the room party I'd be giving serious thought to just staying home, playing Civicrack, and getting some swimming in. Since I have, I better get over to the storage locker and help load out all the stuff we're taking down there -besides the Room Party Kit, of course- into the Kia and Craig's pickup truck. Then there's all the packing up of my own stuff, a lot of which will probably be postponed until Friday morning, but we'll see.

That applies to just about every book I own, really, including the two listed above. The book I've read most often over the years, though, is the Bible.
3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Just ONE book? That's not fair! Hm, well, War and Peace, I guess. Maybe I'd actually finish the damned thing.
4. One book that made you laugh?
George MacDonald Fraser's Quartered Safe Out Here, an autobiographical account of his service in the Burma campaign with the Borderers. Hilarious and thought-provoking by turns, as you might expect from the author of The Flashman Papers.
5. One book that made you cry?
Books don't have that effect on me.
6. One book you wish had been written?
I would have liked to have seen a Reagan autobiography.

The Who By Numbers arrived in the mailbox over the weekend, and I don't know quite what to think about it; most of the songs don't seem familiar at all, despite the fact that this is a replacement for an album I used to have back in the day. More about it later, maybe.
